HSN is offering an Android on Tracfone, the first of its kind. Phone is triple minutes for life and includes a lot of goodies:

2. 600 Minutes, 600 Text and 600 MB of Data
3. Car Charger
4. Choice of Back Cover

This phone is unique as it offers three different tanks of minutes; your minutes, texts and data are no longer shared. Great value! Nice to see Tracfone add an Android handset to their lineup!

I've been a long time Tracfone customer and I've been wanting a "smartphone" to look up some things when we're traveling. Will this be "smart" enough for this AARP member? I do know how to text...but I want to be able to take photos and upload them to Facebook like my kids do! I cannot afford $50/month so that's why I avoided the Net 10 plan. 200 min card is $40 every 3 months so will 600 mins of data be enough for me to look up a few websites or use a few apps now & then? My kids have Galaxy II phones with Virgin Mobile @ $35 or $50/month - ain't nobody got time for that!
You slickdealing youngins! I need some advice if I should get this deal or wait unitl Tracfone comes out with some newer Android phones??? Please help!!!

for those of you pooping on the specs, this is obviously not a galaxy s4 or an iphone. the fact that you're getting an android 4.0+ phone on tracfone is what's intriguing. despite the not so impressive specs, it runs apps smoothly according to videos on youtube. i believe it has an expansion microSD slot so you should be able to add on a lot of storage on the cheap. this phone is a quantum leap ahead of anything else tracfone has. hopefully their future android offerings will be a lot more powerful but this is a quantum leap in the right direction.

I dont even know what specs mean, ( read http://www.anandtech.com/show/733...s-review/5 ) when the rubber hits the road, its the performance that matters.

Under which circumstances is this thing (tracfone) better than, say, pageplus or lyca?
I don't know about Lyca but I have used Page Plus for the past 4 years. Here is some info for you.

Page Plus uses the Verizon network

You can use any Verizon 3G device on Page Plus but Sprint and Verizon 4G phones need to be flashed to work.

I use the Page Plus $30 a month plan which offers 1200 min - 3000 text - 500 MB data.

I flashed a Sprint Galaxy Note 2 to work on Page Plus. Its was complicated to do but you can pay someone on ebay to do it for you if your not that technically inclined.

As far as prepaid carriers, not many compete with Page Plus and IMO tracfone doesn't even come close.

Are you even on Tracfone?

Either you're stuck with a bar or flip phone for the most part. http://www.tracfone.com/phones.jsp

As far as I know this is the ONLY android phone for Tracfone.

If you are in a rural area or for any other reason have poor coverage from T-mobile then Lyca is useless.

Page Plus uses Verizon (cdma) network, and has the best coverage for outlying areas, especially those that are poorly covered by GSM (at&t and t-mobile and all their respective reseller/mvnos).

Tracfone, provided you have a capable handset, will get coverage from almost any nearby GSM tower, regardless of which company/network it belongs to. Tracfone prices are higher than Page Plus, but if you don't talk and text much, and you're willing to watch and wait (I believe the company that owns Tracfone bought Page Plus) things may change in the near future. Right now, Page Plus will give you the best CDMA coverage and the best prices.

If you have good T-mobile coverage and don't move outside of the coverage area, many suggest to go with Lyca.

If you have good Sprint coverage and don't move outside of that coverage area, then have a look at Ting or newcomer Ringplus.

Now that I've typed all that, I hope someone finds it useful. Ha. look around

Bad screen res. Bad camera specs. Sammy customer service always bad.
Huh? What do you expect out of an android phone this cheap off contract? Plus, I don't know what customer service you've talked to, every time I've dealt with Samsung they have been excellent. They even repaired my TV free of charge that had been out of warranty for 3 years.....

I bought a Galaxy Centura from WalMart last month for $100 in the Straight Talk package. The Centura says TracFone on it and even has the TracFone logo on bootup. Ive been using it on Straight Talk all month ($47) but now am curious if the phone will work on TracFone. Likewise will this phone work on Straight talk? Additionally I picked up the Nexus 4 when it dropped $100 a few weeks ago and am using it on Straight talk and couldn't be happier! This centura however was much better then i expected. Pretty quick in all respects other then internet browsing (wifi) and games, and its rootable. The nexus is worth double the price but i wouldn't shy from this phone if your on a budget.

It's not the same thing. That is only for Net10. This is only for tracfone.

I did look a that page yesterday for the reviews though, so it is worth something.

Does anyone know if there would be a problem if I purchased this as a gift for a friend who already has a Tracfone? My buddy is in need of a smartphone now but he already has a lot of minutes on Tracfone today, so it would be a hassle to move him over to the T-Mobile $30 plan at the moment.

I didn't want to purchase this but kill the triple minute/data/text upgrades for him.

Does the triple for life also work for the Android data only cards? It would be nice to also grab a 2GB card and have him set for data for a while.
