The manufacturer supplied contrast ratios are often not so reliable for comparing display devices. So I would want some independent tests to compare the two on that metric. Otherwise the BenQ has gotten some good reviews as a home theater projector, not sure about the Optoma.
Some deals I got thanks to SD:
$200.00 - Intel i7-4770K CPU
$75.40 - 32gb (4 x 8gb) Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz RAM
$107.05 - Intel i5-2500k CPU
$54.05 - Kodak ZX5 Playsport video camera
$105.66 - Intel I3 2100 CPU and MSI H61M-E33 motherboard combo
$63.65 - AMD 840 Phenom II X4 CPU and MSI 880GM-E35 motherboard combo
$88.95 - XBOX 360 Arcade 4gb console w/ 2 games
Based on my research, both offer very similar features and picture quality. In my case, I wanted to project my image from a shorter distance on a coffee table since my room is only 13 ft long. The W1070 has a shorter throw range compared to the others. Not to be confused with W1080ST which has even shorter throw ranges.
I wish some projectors that were good at 3D GAMING would come out, gaming in 3D is a far better experience than movies in 3D. 3D Vision is better than 3DPlay. Current projectors are hamstrung by HDMI, they need to start having DVI interfaces
Good deal, but after comparing the HD131Xe, if you do not need a short throw projector, the Optoma is getting equal, and better reviews. Add the fact the Optoma is $60 cheaper and the bulb is almost $100 less to replace than the w1070, the lifetime cost of the HD131Xe is much less. Just an FYI.
