Sometimes, although more accurately it's between cities. But even Staten Island, for example, has areas where I cannot call, text, or email on VZW at all. And AT&T does not work well near JFK. The coverage maps don't reflect this of course.
That's actually a little surprising with Staten Island. Oddly, water improves the signal with WiMAX, but I would really consult the coverage map before hand.

Not to throw ATT a bone (because well they are our competitor) but places like airports have tons of electronic interferences that isn't easily estimated with coverage maps, but from experience this does work at LAX Wink

I know we wish we could, but 3G actually costs us more with Sprint who's network we use, so they keep charging us more! Even though this is 3G capable though, you can still sign up for the Free 500MB 4G only plan when you don't need 3G.

Whose network do these run on? I travel frequently through areas that have poor coverage from one service or another.
I am guessing a combination of Clear.com and Sprint.

Sure, I understand nothing comes free. I appreciate you guys anyways for trying your bit to counter phone company monopolies Smilie

I will be going on tour with my band traveling city to city. I wonder if this is the device I want if I want to share between multiple devices?

Seems like a frugal option for wireless internet on the road. I understand I may not always have coverage, but for (free) or very cheap, it would be an option some of the time opposed to nothing.

FP guy, can you butt in on this at all and answer some questions?

1. Is the Overdrive Pro 3g and 4g capable? It will connect to either network if one is available?
2. How many devices can be connected to the Overdrive Pro?
3. How does the free plan work?
4. Is the $3.99 charge for roll-over a 1 time charge that will be effective indefinitely? Can I make this initial purchase, cancel, and get the 500mb free every month add up with no monthly charges?

If you're on the road and driving between large cities in rural areas, you may just be able to get 3G service, but you seem to have a really good grasp on this already so we'll skip to the questions:

1. It is 3G and 4G WiMAX capable. If 4G isn't available, it will drop to 3G. Of course if the network isn't available and there's no signal, you won't be able to get online.
2. 8 wifi enabled
3. Free plan works like you get 500MBs of data. You will however only be able to get online with 4G WiMAX. You can choose to keep going past 500 on our pay as you go system or you can select to disable automatic top up. Of course, really we offer 1GB for free if you find this thread on slickdeals where you can find 10 emails to add to get an extra 500MBs (50MBs each friend). If you need 3G, the first plan is 4G/3G Pro 500MB for $3.99. Cheaper than a latte.
4. Data Rollover is $3.99/mo and 100% optional, but it's a good option if you want to save up data for later. We will always have the 500MB 4G only option available. You can upgrade to a larger plan, try rollover and cancel, and it will still be there.

Just like any of our plans. No downgrade or cancellation fees. If you don't need it, then downgrade to the 4G Free plan and upgrade when you need it.

When does the promotional trial starts? The moment you purchase the product or when you receive/use the product (I assume you have to activate it somehow) for the first time.

It will start when your place your order, and restart again when you it has been shipped. It works out because you'll actually have more data to use with your remaining days, and you will get more data sooner.

Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm trying to understand the deal:
1. This deal is $35 for the hotspot that initially comes with 2GB of data for free
2. 2nd month is $20 for the 2GB of data
3. 1GB free bonus data is for the first month only
4. You can change your $20/2GB plan to something else like a free 500MB/4G only plan or a $3.99 500MB/3G/4G plan

Am I on the right track here? Thanks!

Thank you. I am, after all, the master.

So how is this deal not REALLY REALLY awesome. I mean, hotspot on the go for all my devices, not having to pay my cell carrier $20-30 extra to use tethering "legally," and probably many more benefits. All for $35 and then pay $0 to $24 each month after? The free and $4/month sound great, and if you need it, the 2GB/$20 is great too! Sheesh I guess if you service in your area this is a no brainer.

Ok, I'm in. I actually tried to get in on the first FreedomPop SD posted but had to cancel because the device didn't arrive before my trip. This time I hope it actually takes a while to ship since I'm traveling at the beginning of December.

I'll order in the morning, then I have to find that Conga line thread.

EDIT: And it makes sense for me to do rollover at least the first time, right? This way if the device gets here mid-October, I can still keep that 2GB for December. Or if I drop to the 500MB plan, will I lose the ability to drop down to 3G even for the original 2GB that were rolled over?

I love this service. I'm currently on free plan and using it as a temporary home internet because I recently moved to a new place that doesn't have internet. Freedompop rep on SlickDeals is very active, so you don't have to use the call center to get help.

You can connect up to 8 devices with the OverdrivePro, and check accumulated data usage by double pressing the button on the front 3 times. The unit heats up a lot so I modded mine to have a heatsink and keep it plugged into a AC power adapter. It's been on for 4 days straight now.
