If you get lost in the Grand Canyon for a day or two, you wish you'd pay anything for it. EEK!
If you got lost in the Grand Canyon and couldn't find the COLORADO RIVER you need way more than bottled water.............

Break even point is, over $5500/year at costco. If you spend more than that, get the executive card. At 2% back, you will get back $110. Otherwise, stick to costco gift cards.
If you get the Costco AmEx card, which gives you 3% cashback at Costco (including gas purchases), the break even point for a $55 membership is just $1833. If you have two cars, it doesn't take long to hit that amount.

Will this work for existing Costco members if membership is about to expire?

Since when is a 35 pack of bottled water worth $16?
That's what I was going to say. How about $5.00 at the most???

I just ordered this deal through my state employee discount page a couple weeks ago. The total will be $57 with the $2 shipping and you'll get it by mail within about 7 business days. They send you other useful coupons like $5 off any meat dept product and about 7 others like that.

A WORD OF CAUTION:

If you have ever ( I mean ever in your life or in your household) had a costco membership before, they will force you to buy the executive membership for $110 and your $55 voucher will be applied towards that. When they told me this (since I was a member a few years ago), I said forget that, and went to another costco to sign up as a brand new member. I just didn't give them my ID, but showed them credit cards instead with my name on them to verify identity. They do not need your ID or SS# to verify anything - just something with your name on it. Doing this, I was able to get the regular $55 gold star membership and a free household card to use. Hope that helps someone.
So, you gave them a different address than in the past?????

Costco amex gives you 3% cashback on Costco gas and other US gas stations, but for other purchases at Costco it's 1% cashback

Costco Travel gets you 2% cash back

Even so ... it takes more time to gas up at Costco than regular gas stations. Costcos, at least around me, are not just off the side of the road. They are deep inside service entrances cause they all need huge parking lots. Since you get 5% back in gas with Freedom and Discover for at least twice a year, it doesn't seem to be worth it to get gas at Costco at 3% back for $55 annually.

If you're just going to use it for gas, it would be better to pay a friend or family member who has a Costco membership to buy you Costco gift cards which you can just use at the pump (without having to buy a separate membership) or to even use in-stores without membership.

In fact... unless you spend a lot of $ at costco every year, it's better to have friends buy you costco gift cards.

yeah I know all that, I still shop there, but the gas is the main reason I stay there, instead of maybe a Sams club or BJs etc.

Actually the break even point is $2750 since you'll get back $55 which will cover the upcharge for the executive card. Otherwise, just stick to the $55 membership.
Yes but my point was, if you have a friend or family member, just get them to buy you gift cards which allow you go in and purchase whatever you need without having to sign up for an actual membership.

The $2750 only covers the $55 extra for executive. The regular membership doesn't really have that much of a benefit over regular gift cards. If this works for you, you can use that $55 to buy actual merchandise (rather than the membership fee)

I believe they are actually called Cash Cards and I agree with you. I believe you can pay for a $200 in-store purchase even if you only have a $5.00 Cash Card because you can pay the difference with another form of payment. I think I'm right about that.

Nice workaround. I never knew that. I want to buy an RO water system from Costco so will have to play that angle using a Cash card.

I previously had an annual memebership at Costco but it became too much of a hassle to get there since I don't live close, and I didn't like their limited hours closing on weekends at 6pm.
