NETGEAR recently released it's AC router based on the new Broadcom chipset. Interestingly, their router is cheaper than the Asus RT-AC68U by $20, comes clocked slightly higher (1ghz vs 800mhz), and performs better in most tests.

Newegg has it for $199. Use MBLMOBILE10 for $20 off. Total should be $179.99 with free shipping. Not bad for what is probably the fastest router in the world right now.

+1 for me. Bought the Asus, but the speeds are not as good as the Netgear so I took it back. Ordered the Netgear R7000 from Newegg. Repped OP.

Yea I think for a lot of people this is probably not going to help a whole lot. I just built a NAS though and the speed on my RT-N66U just isn't good enough. Bought this R7000 and the Asus PCE-AC68 to go with it.

I was also going to get the Asus router since I already have the RT-N66U and it's great but it looks like this Netgear really is the winner this time around. Both Asus and Linksys chose to use the 800Mhz processor in their routers. The Netgear at $179.99 is a no-brainer.

Coming from an older Asus router that was very good, the Netgear is hands down the best router I've used. Phenomenal signal on 5ghz now has no problem going from the second floor in one corner of the house to the basement in the other corner. It's definitely a winner.

initial impression seems to favor the Netgear R7000

ASUS RT-AC68U has some bugs but they are working on it through firmware releases. Hopefully the USB 3.0 problem is only a firmware issue and not hardware due to lack of shielding or something.

ongoing discussion about the Asus 68 here:

I'm using N750 routers for now.

Thanks OP. I was about to buy the Asus RT-AC68U before I decided to look around to see the competition. After reading about some bugs with the ASUS and the fact that it was $20 more expensive, the coupon code you provided on top of the savings were a no brainer in choosing the Netgear.

Thanks, I have been looking for a cheap ac router for about a week and haven't found anything with great reviews for under $100. So, I caved and decided to just get the best!

Awesome, but I guess it will take some time until Tomato is running on either this one or the RT-ac68u.

Thx & Repped. 3 weeks ago I got the ASUS RT-N66U from newegg for my new house. Called an hour ago and asked if they could take it back (its unopened) so that I can order Netgear Nighthawk and the rep was kind enough to set up RMA for a full refund. No restocking fee and sent me pre-paid shipping label. Props to Newegg's customer service.
Reviews on this nighthawk router are amazing.

Well... I came in here to say "It's still a Netgear" but apparently this seems to be reviewed well.

If you used the coupon for the keyboard can you still use it for the router?
