What's the warranty on this?
I contacted B&N for the Nook HD refurb deal from another eBay seller and they said that they will provide a 1 year warranty for refurbs if it is certified pre-owned, which this appears to be.

I'm thinking that the 9" hd+ with a faster cpu and a bigger screen for $99 is the deal right now. These 7"ers will have to go down into the $60-something range or the larger ones go permanently out of stock before $70 is a good deal on the 7's.
Where can you find one for $99? Please share!

My wife has the Nook HD+, and it is slowing down and lagging a little bit right now.
That's because android, unlike ios versions prior to 7, does actual multitasking. All the apps you load and ask to do background notifications and work behind the scenes. When a bunch of those kick in at the same time, you get a lag. There is also some stuff around 'trim'ming the flash periodically which can induce a few seconds of stoppage now and then if your apps tend to create and delete a lot of files. Also, if a slow SD card is installed, that can seriously contribute to the alleged 'lag' problems.

ios until v7 suspended background apps and processes, only operating with the focused app. So while you notice less lag, nothing was really being checked on in real time. Be interesting to see people's opinions on ios product lag now that they're doing some actual multitasking. It'll be a bit before the apps catch up with the abilities though.

So solution to a lot of the lag problems are to use an sd card with fast 4k random read/write speeds, which has absolutely nothing to do with the 'class ratings', turn off background notifications and background processing options or remove apps when you can use chrome to check the same services (gmail, facebook), and you'll see less problems with slow downs from excess processing.

If you're a tech nerd propeller head, there are kernels kicking around for the newer versions of cyanogenmod that do the trim function in a more elegant manner that eliminates or reduces lag from that operation. Haven't tried one myself yet, because I don't really see the problem that much. I imagine those will work their way into stable releases sooner or later. How that works is very specific to each device, so not really something that google can bake into android themselves.

we've got the 7" and the 10", hd, hd+ (office max Smilie )

both have problems finding the router.

The touchpad has no problems.

But the wi-fi works, it just tends to lose, then find the signal. If it gets stuck, we reboot the router and all is well.
weird. i have the opposite experience. both touchpad and nook have very good wifi connections, but the Nook connects way faster than the touchpad. i've never had either of them drop the signal.

+1.

It may have something to do with your router rather than the nook.

How's the wifi reception on these things? I need something with great reception and from what I see the Kindle Fire HD and HDX are the best out there.
My subjective observations on this topic. Nook HD is noticeably worse than my iPhone 5. A rough estimate by walking around the house, if the furthest I can go with my iPhone 5 from my router is considered a 10, Nook HD would be an 8.

Wow this really makes me feel like a schmuck for spending almost $160 on the 16GB version for mother's day.
dont feel so bad... if you could tell the future you would be a billionaire ... nobody knows when the floor will drop out and prices crash.. its all speculation.. plus you got 4-5 months use out of it as well.. but yeah slickdeals does pay mind tricks with you... should I wait... I know as soon as I buy it will be $20 less next week with some trick or code etc... LOL

Just a quick question. I just bought one YESTERDAY for $29.99 more. Do you think it's possible that they will allow me to cancel that one - since it hasn't shipped - and then re-order the new one?

Yeah, I live in a dream world but was just wondering if someone has ever been in a similar situation with this company.

PS - Yeah, I know they ship via Mongolia and that during black Friday they will pay me money to buy these. And I know that I could have bought the 9" for the same price and that this is the best device for the money...unless you're comparing it to an iPad at which point it is a piece of trash. :p

Thanks for the information.
doesnt hurt to try... I bet they will let you...and if they say no I would call my cc company and tell them that shipping is forever and they didnt disclose that etc... so you wanna cancel... or dispute the charge... then order one once this one is cleared up...

signal and reception is so subjective.... it all depends on walls, router brands, bands, weather, zodiac...LOL... but I had no problems with my HD+ and signal...

Rooting works well, especially cyanogen.

There's no other capable tablet at this price. These Nooks are a steal at $70 if you are looking for a basic tablet -- great screen, good responsiveness, almost full access to everything on Google Play right out of the box.
You can also root stock which is what I did and it works well. There were some CM bugs that bothered me so I went this route.
