This was in the Costco Ad Print thread...not to say this isnt a good deal or should not be broken out..but may want to give da dude credit Smilie

Also, everyone should note that the newer designer series has the variable speed adjustment where this model does not...just something to be aware of...still great deal and I probably will jump on it. With Costco backing it ...it is golden.

I really want either a vitamix or blendtec but wife is not convinced at all that we will use it enough to justify 400 plus bucks for a blender... Buying from Costco = no worries.

Trust me, once you buy it, it'll be justified time and time again. The beauty is in it's versatility. I personally like the blendtec (I have both). They both are workhorses and pretty much perform the same - the blendtec just looks better on the counter top (when left out) and fits underneath standard counter top/cabinetry spacing - where as the Vitamix does not. Blendtec design is also more modern, the Vitamix looks like it came straight out of the late 70's.

We use our's daily - making our morning kefir/banana/raw egg shakes. Of course this blender is over kill for that purpose - but we can also do soups, grains, margaritas, basically whatever you can throw it.

I like my Blendtec. Bought this same deal last year from Costco.

Like Drinal's comment, I was a bit apprehensive dropping that coin on a blender but I knew I could take it back to Costco if it was underwhelming.

Have one and use it everyday. Costco return policy rocks if anything ever happens to it!

Serious question: What can a $400 blender do that my $100 blender from bed bath and beyond can't?

Your $100 can probably do what this $400 blender does, which is blend. But if you care about blend quality, time, reliability (8 year warranty), then you'd go with a higher end blender. It's why smoothie shops don't use $100 blenders.

If you want to rely on extreme and impractical situations to find out:

Same blender as in this deal.

Gotcha. So this is basically a blender for everyday use that won't crap out after a year. Makes sense.

It blends "finer" than cheaper blenders, which some may regard as a benefit for more fibrous foods, like kale, which would otherwise taste grainier when blended cheaply. Depends on your preferences. Personally, I don't mind grainier smoothies, since it all goes to the same place in the end anyway.
