Thread Details

They had this last year and they had the Vizio 60" TV and the $0.01 SIII smart phones that were the target deals for a lot of Wal-Mart customers. I got my special invitation (Plus member) today. Unfortunately I don't have any info on what items will be available at this event, but there will almost certainly be 1 or 2 big ticket items to shoot for.

Other than being a plus member a business plus member should receive an invitation as well. Last year you could sign up to be a plus member just for the event and then change to a regular membership after the event and they'd refund you the difference of your unused plus membership cost vs. the regular membership cost. I do not know if they still offer the refund on the plus membership cost if you change to a regular membership.

This event proved to be the most sure fire way to get the 60" Vizio last year that didn't require you waiting in a massive line for a long time or getting lucky to hit it on Amazon.

Not certain. I believe $115 vs. $40. You pay the $75 difference and then get ~$70 back when you revert back to a regular membership.
Thanks and repped.

IMO Samsung is the highest quality brand available. Additionally when you're looking at a series model number if you're not getting 6000/6001/6003 or the very base numbers you're probably looking at a pretty decent quality model.

Did you get a basic membership or a plus membership? You will likely need to upgrade to a plus membership to be invited to the event. After the event you can likely drop back to a basic membership and they'll give you the cost difference on a gift card.
Thanks for the review - so you think it is a good deal?

As for Sams club membership - you don't need to have plus membership because I am on student membership and I have been getting private even invitation. And as others have stated as well - you can go to sams club and ask for the invite (does not matter which membership you have).

Yup and that invite doesn't necessarily get you through the door at the event. People reported having to fight with store managers at the event last year based on the fact that they got an invitation, but their membership didn't qualify for it.

I picked up the Samsung S3's last year during the Plus Membership pre-black friday. Will I be able to replace the S3's with the S4's using my existing 1 year old sprint contract?

I am new member to Sam's club (Thanks to Groupon offer). Am I eligible to participate in this event or is it only for people with invitations? Please let me know.
Based on what I saw last year, it's invitation only. They checked for them at the door. If you have the plus membership, just go to the customer service desk and ask if you could get an invitation.

Thank you ncasolo..

If you don't mind in answering the question, how much will it be difference between basic and plus membership?
It depends on when your current Sams Club membership expires. I went to upgrade mine online and it told me my membership I already have expires in March 2014. So my upgrade to plus was only $16.88!

This upgrade will be applied to your current Membership. . The cost has been prorated based on the time remaining in your Membership.

Upgrade to Sam's Plus Membership:
$16.88

I received an invitation in the mail today but I'm just a regular member. We share the membership with my parents and do a lot of grocery shopping there and spend a crapload of money every week. Is it possible they sent it to me because of that or are they expanding this to all regular members?

No, but it is possible they sent it to you because of how much money you spend at the store. You've probably spent over a certain amount making you a VIP member even though you're not a plus member.

Invitations aside, you normally can't even get in the door before 10am on Sundays unless you have a Plus or Business membership. This is true even on normal business days let alone VIP/ Black Friday sales. Of course, YMMV depending on how strict your Sams wants to be.

Sounds like it depends on your Club - I am on student membership and I have gone to my club on Sunday Mornings and other weekday morning before 10am when it is open only for business customers and bought things. Anyway I will give it a shot for private event since I am eyeing on 60" Sammy - the smart one!

I got an invitation in the mail and we have been a member since 1994 but we are only the basic member as far as I know. Perhaps we spend enough there on groceries and other things to qualify for the event?

so im just trying to understand one thing:
lets say i show up sunday at 7pm
i have the invite
i have the right membership
but when i get there, there are already 200 people in line ahead of me to buy the 70" LED tv.
let's just say for arguments sake the store only has 50 of them on hand.

will they give me a raincheck for the item when they get it in stock or is this just "black friday, but limited to a specific group and on a different day?"

b/c if it is, i am sure you'll have to go many hours beforehand in order to get the deal and i dont wait in 3+ hrs lines - not worth my time

however, if i can show up in the time specified, maybe not walk out with a Tv, but at least be guaranteed to pick one up in a few weeks or delivered to my house (Even better), then yeah ill upgrade my membership for sure

Spoke with a person at Sams last night and asked about price protection. I was told that if within 30days come in with Original receipt and if they have at least 2 of the item in stock then they will match the new price. This was a lady behind service desk and not a manager, so YMMV? Reason I am stating this is I bought the 60" Samsung last night and plan to price match it there next Sunday at VIP event. I plan to go to VIP event and get a ticket they hand out for TV's,(my Sams always hands tickets out). Worst case I plan to buy the TV again at lower price and return it with the original receipt. My fall back is using Discover price protection. The one I got last night was the last one they had on the floor.
