are these just nightlights or do they have battery powered capabilities that illuminate during power outages?
Near as I can tell, THEY HAVE NO BATTERY POWER.

They are @#$ night-lights. Worth no more than $2 each to me, so PASS.

with they were motion instead, I think they'll be on all day.

Do you live in the US? The only time I have seen outlets installed horizontally was overseas.
I live in the US and ours are installed horizontally. Our house was built in '79 though so that's probably why. It causes so much hassle though, it drives me nuts. It's not such a big deal for things like lamps or hair dryers or whatever but for things like this or air freshener things that are supposed to face down, etc, it's annoying.

I was hoping they were motion, have some places that could use them. Already have dark-detecting nightlights, and they serve their intended purpose well...

Picked up a few of these; low power, elegant design, soft light, reviews are pretty darn good -- christmas gifts acquired. =D Thanks OP!

EDIT: They got me on NJ sales tax. ;')
same here but still good price.

Just picked up a set. Should work for going down the stairs at night w/o having to switch the light on and back off...I know, lazy Smilie

Actually, the house we bought had a horizontal double outlet a couple feet away from the kitchen sink. Doesn't make sense because the one closer to the sink is verticle.

This suck because they require an outlet. The Energizer branding literally makes no sense

The problem with these is you cant use the plug above them or the light stays on all the time.

The lack of motion detecting makes this deal far less appealing. If used for a few years, you'll pay for a lot of wasted electricity by having these on all night long, 99%+ of the time unnecessarily. For roughly the same price (but much cheaper over time), go with these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VF9POY/ Highly-rated, very reliable, and more than enough light to illuminate your way when you get up at night. Have them all through my home.

I already have a bunch of Mr Beams lights in my house, but I am getting tempted by the low price and good reviews of these night lights.
I intend to use these where I currently have a few Mr Beam units. Constantly recharging(well, maybe only every month) the Eneloops in them are no fun. Running off the mains -> these are set and forget
