You apparently missed the point in your desperate attempt to cast doubt on my intelligence (I've mentioned separate pricing for the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina as well as release dates, which is more than you ever provided). You are claiming that there is no way that the iPad mini with Retina would be discounted so closely to its release, yet the iPad Air only had an 11-day lead and was discounted from the beginning. There may - and I stress "may" (I could have picked up an iPad mini with Retina at Best Buy yesterday) - be a shorter supply of the iPad mini with Retina, but that doesn't mean that big box retailers won't discount it just because it is "new". The point is that words like "impossible" and "realistic" don't work based on the argument of newness and availability.
From what I've read and heard it cannot be the ipad mini retina because there isn't enough stock available to go around compared to demand.
It is expected that the demand for new ipad mini retina is really high this holiday season and Apple doesn't have enough stock to go around. They don't have enough parts available to quickly produce units. Apple is trying to secure enough parts from suppliers to meet the demand but that hasn't happened yet.
People need to understand Apple is manufacturing so many products this year, with many variants, and supplies/parts for the units are limited and thus production is limited. Many units use same processors or same buttons or camera or same internal parts, etc. making it very hard to have enough to go around. e.g. this is one reason why Iphone 5s has fingerprint scanner and the new ipad air doesn't (not enough to go around for all the units).
So from the simple demand and supply equation it would be easy to deduce it cannot be the ipad mini retina. I doubt that Walmart alone was able to secure high # of units to sell for Black Friday Deals. Don't forget there are so many other retailers that will also be selling same product during holiday season.
This isn't my opinion but it is very well known; just read the articles below:
I would not bank on the sale to be online though. If your really wanting to get the iPad mini I would be at walmart by 4pm thanksgiving day. Look at the map they supply to see where line will be and go get in line right then. I have never tried it any other way with the sale items at Walmart just because they sometimes do shady stuff like giving half of them to friends before the sale even starts. But any other store you would probably be ok buying online. Just don't trust Walmart. Sorry I hope I do not offend anyone by saying this just speaking on personal experiences. Good luck!!
Ugh, I've always been adamantly opposed to going to any store on Black Friday (or Thursday in this case), but I may just break down and go for the iPad Mini, which is a fantastic deal. Any other pointers for a noob? If I show up at 6pm and stand in line am I still guaranteed? Will I even be able to get past the door?
I've never gone to WalMart before on a Black Friday (or Thursday in this case). They say they will honor the price for an hour (6-7PM local time). How long were the lines last year to get a product similar to this? Would I have time to jump over to other items as well?
Just trying to determine whether I have to wait 45 minutes in line for an iPad Mini after the store opens. Meijer is offering the iPad Mini as well for the same price, but with only an $80GC...and that sale starts on Thanksgiving at 6AM.
I just got off phone with my local walmart manager and was told that the guarantee is on the price alone and that the extra "goodie" being the gift card is not guaranteed. I then laughed and said that's no deal at all for those that don't get gift card and to the credit of the manager was told it's more of a tool to get people in line and in the store. Just thought I would give that heads up and again not surprised by the shadiness of it all: it's Walmart.
