both of these settings i found online.

here are calibrated settings 1:

Backlight: 35

Color: 40
Tint: 0
Sharpness: 15
Color Temp: Normal (I usually prefer Warm, but this set seemed to have a strong natural red push, so Normal was better)

Active Backlight On

here are calibrated settings 3:

I did not want to rely on the factory picture settings so I ran a THX optimizer DVD using THX optimizer glasses to come up with the picture settings below. All the Advance Settings were turned off prior to running the optimizer.

Source: DirecTV (via HDMI on Input # 2, 720p 60Hz)

Picture
Backlight: 34
Brightness: 66
Contrast: 41
Color: 46
Tint: G3
Sharpness: 29 (i could not tell much of a difference changing this setting)

Picture - Advance Settings
Overscan: Off
Active Backlight: Off
Motion Enhancement: On(Low)
Color Temp: Normal
Noise Reduction: Off

Active Contrast: Off

Tried the 1st setting you gave and it worked . Keeping it.
Will try these other settings soon.

Clouding/flashlight FIX: gentle 1 finger tap massage on the clouded area. not a 100% fix but was able to reduce the cloud significantly.

thanks chandoo99!

so did u buy that tv? seemed like a good deal for the same price.
Yeah, I bought the TV, have not opened it yet. Because people has made some good points about the Sharp TV being a rebranded Insignia TV, also that the Sharp model was made specifically for Black Friday so there weren't any reviews for it yet whereas this Toshiba has a lot of good reviews.

Also interesting that the Sharp is available now at $550, which was the normal price range for 50" 120Hz Insignias. I think that this Sharp MSRP should be a lot closer to that than its listed $700. That's probably more of an AQUOS price (although the 50" AQUOS seems to be phased out).

I think they are just phasing out the larger / higher-end Insignias and replacing them with lower-end Sharps. Makes sense -- people that want higher-end TVs generally don't want a store brand.
