Rebate fraud, TigerDirect 4myrebate.com

96shox 404 184 November 13, 2013 at 09:53 PM
4myrebate.com denied a $30 rebate for fans I bought from TigerDirect.com. I took pictures of the signed forms and UPC labels I sent in but on their rebate site is says that I didnt provide the items. Total fraud on their part.

How have you guys dealt with BS like this in the past?

"Signed Rebate Form is missing- Original UPC Barcode Label (#955999412269) (Not the shipping label barcode) is missing- Copy of Receipt/Invoice/Order Confirmation is missing- No proof of purchase- Barcode label is missing- Reseller is not eligible for this offer- No proof of purchase date in documentation "

My picture proof of what I sent in

Same thing happened to me. I have pics of postmarked envelopes and all my forms etc. Need to follow this up with 4myrebate or tigerdirect. On another note, my newegg rebate through 4myrebate was approved...

Your documents weren't received and entered into their system. If they were, then there would be a "Documentation Received" entry in the tracking system with a link to scans. You need to resubmit ASAP; do it before Tuesday to be safe(er-ish). 4MyRebate's phone number is in their FAQ and the hours are 9-6 ET on weekdays only. Typically they will insist on resubmission by mail if they don't have any of your documents and only allow resubmission by fax if your submission was incomplete. After talking to them you may want to consider faxing it in anyway.

About your image:
  • Your tracking number is in there (and in the barcode). You may want to edit that out as well.
  • I can't tell if your UPCs are attached but they should be. That area is good but they shouldn't be overlapping.

And a couple things to help me understand what's going on at 4MyRebate. Feel free to answer by PM.
  • Do you order a lot from TD?
  • Are/where you an Inner Circle member? Since when?
  • Did any of your TD orders go to "Please Call" status around the time of this order?
  • How many rebates have you submitted to 4MyRebate?
  • Have they failed to acknowledge receipt of any other rebates submitted more than 2 weeks ago?
  • Do you have any rebates stuck in the "documentation received" state for more than 2 weeks?

I had the same problem! I've been receiving rebates without issues for two years (except for one incident with a Total Defense/CA rebate two years ago). But I just realized on Monday that I haven't heard back about my rebates from September. When I checked online, all 4 rebates from the same week were denied! When I called, they said they had never received the documents. I sent 4 separate rebates from 3 geographically different locations on 3 separate days. When I told them about it, they told me it was a coincidence that they all went missing!

But I have a theory. To give you some background, I started increasing my rebate purchasing habit in June, ramping up from 2 or 3 rebates/month to over 6 per month. At the beginning of September, all 4 of my purchases went into "Please Call." status on TigerDirect. When I finally noticed that none of the items were shipping in, I spoke to three different departments and ended up getting a rep. from the Verification department to admit that I was been tagged as a "reseller" because I had not been purchasing "enough" high-price items, and I was purchasing rebate items "too frequently". They actually admitted it over the phone. We had the issue fixed after I verified that I was making personal purchases, and I still had all the items in my workshop (I don't re-sell items I buy on TigerDirect; I have 3 computer builds right now and I'm making 3 more over the next year to use at home and for personal use at work).

After I had my status fixed, I ordered two more rebate items towards the end of September. This went without incident, and I received confirmation & approval for them within a couple of weeks. So I never thought to go back and check the status on the four items I purchased in the beginning of September.

But all 4 rebate claim denials are in the same time-frame that TigerDirect had me listed as a reseller. So my theory is that TigerDirect and 4MyRebate share the same database, and 4MyRebate automatically throws out any mail submissions during a time-frame when the user's account is in negative status. They don't scan the documents you send in. They don't even acknowledge it. They just toss it out so they can claim that they never received it (theory).

I've been a loyal customer for almost a decade. I've spent a lot of money before I started trusting their rebate system two years ago. I personally recommend TigerDirect to friends and family, and I run my department's business purchases through them. I even purchased their Inner Circle membership nearly a year ago.

If they cannot resolve this issue over a few $10 rebate claims, then I'll need to call an inter-departmental meeting at work about the integrity of TigerDirect. We can easily shift our purchases to CDW, Pomeroy, and NewEgg.

They cannot renege on an offer and treat normal customers as criminals when these customers have made legitimate purchases, followed all technical steps for any claims, and provided proof thereof.

I tried to buy a rebate item today (flashlight that would cost $5 after rebate). It immediately went to "Please Call" status, even though this issue was supposed to be fixed. I called in and they immediately removed the status, but I called again later to also cancel the order, now that I know that the "Please Call" status means that any rebate claims will automatically be denied if it was associated with a purchased while my account was blacklisted.

I spent three hours today trying to figure out what to do with my 4 denied rebate claims. For three of them, I was told resubmit the paperwork & scans. For one of them, I was told that it will not be reviewed and that they will not acknowledge any paperwork I resubmit. The rep. also refused to escalate my call to her supervisor, stating that "he will deny your request anyways."

I think Tigerdirect/4myrebate deserves another expensive lawsuit for this BS.

Thanks for sharing the similar situations you guys are in. Definitely a legal matter, LOL at them claiming 3 rebates didnt get sent to them. USPS is bad, but not that bad.

Funny thing is they have this rebate "assurance" program, and they are asking me to send in the documents again...so exactly how am I supposed to send in the UPCs again? haha

I had a problem with Tiger direct rebate a couple of years ago when I bought the graphic card to build my computer. I sent in everything including the UPC. They denied my rebate and the reason was missing UPC. I had to call them 5 times to be able to convince them to let me send in the copy of the UPC, which is ridiculous. Unfortunately, i didn't make a copy of the UPC. Fortunately, there's a mini UPC sticker on my GPU, so I scanned it and zoomed it bigger. I had to call back to check if my fax has been received, which took a week for them to verify.

The bottom line is that this rebate company will try to deny your rebate through dishonesty and fraud. They know that most people don't make copies of their rebate documents, so they use this to their advantage. Make sure you make copies of everything. They will let you re-submit a copy as a "courtesy," but the truth is that they lied. There's nothing we can do to prove that they lied. If you are the unlucky people who got randomly picked to get denied, you have to be ready to fight for the rebate or you won't get it. Expect a couple of hours holding on the phone to speak with them if you are the chosen one.

Too lazy to retype, but read this post I wrote up.
Long story short - 4myrebate lost 6 of my rebates -> got them back thru BBB/rebate assurance.

Always keep the ad that mentioned the rebate offer because, according to court clerks, you sue the seller.

My last 4MyRebates submission, for a TigerDirect Seagate 1TB SATA hard disk, was submitted Oct. 25, 2013, received Nov. 15, 2013. American Express agreed to convert the $30 gift card to cash and offered payment by check (in 20 business days) or electronic transfer (in 15 business days).

How can we take legal actions if they denied my rebate? They denied about more than 5 of my rebates. They declined 1 of them on Nov. 5, 2013. I called them about it and they said they can't do anything about it since I sent the mail on 9/23/13. I'm supposed to call within a few weeks after I sent it and/or check rebate status, not after it has been declined. I told them, do they really expect me to check the rebate status every single day because I work full-time so I don't have time to do that. They still said they can't do anything about it. I asked them about my other rebate status that doesn't have a declined status and they told me to resend the documents. I asked them if I can send it through fax since I sent it through fax before. They said they're under new management, and a new manager so they changed the policy, and some other bs

It's baloney that they can't do anything because of the amount of time that's passed. I've never been denied a rebate by 4MyRebates for anything I've bought from TigerDirect or NewEgg, but I always phone them before submission.

Have you tried contacting them at customerservice@help.4myrebate.com? They've answered me in 2 days. Attach scans of all the submitted materials. I don't like fax because companies have often complained about the documents being unreadable.

I don't know what to do, but file complaints at BBB.org, the attorney general of the state where they're based (in the case of TigerDirect and 4MyRebates parent Systemax, it's not Florida), and with FTC.gov.

I've always wondered. when resubmitting via fax, the rebate form already has the tracking number on it so do we have to make that clear?

I just fax the form in. I think they just want to know you aren't double submitting.
Should be fine Smilie

So 4myrebate asked me to resubmit the docs again; they received it but it says it was postmarked outside the time limit... Well duh, it wouldnt be if they did their job the first time and didnt try to rip people off. Ridiculous, and TD has been no help at all.
