This is awfully suspicious to me. Sounds like something my mom would try one Thanksgiving to further test the limits of our patronization.

As with just about all Lowes deals, YMMV. Some will win, some will lose. We usually lose out here in So Cal, so this was a rare win. Big Grin

Hence, as usual with Lowes YMMV . Maybe try other stores/zips?

$99 here, too.

I got this for my Dad a few years ago from the Lowe's Facebook game.. I won a 90% off coupon for this item, so got it for $10. This thing is incredible. It sounds gimmicky, but works incredibly well. The skin comes out crisp, meat stays moist, and it takes just a couple of hours to cook an average sized bird. Well worth $50. And, honestly, if I cooked birds more than once a year, this would be worth it even at $99.

I got one of these last time for $25. We have used it 4 or 5 times and it is awesome. It basically tastes the same as deep frying in oil without the mess or danger. Plus you don't have to keep replacing all of that oil which gets expensive.

Damn, bought mine at full price last year around this time. Great deal for those of you who can get it. As others have said...all of the "deep fried" goodness, with none of the mess.

You can also use it for other things like seafood "boils". We cooked husked corn, crab legs, oysters, and potatos in this thing in the summer.

Are you including the time it takes for the oil to get ridiculously hot? You don't put a turkey in cold oil, it has to be really hot for it to work right. So I think it is closer than you think, but using oil is still probably a little faster (depending on size of the turkey, obviously the larger the turkey the faster deep frying in oil would be). But either way, I have to imagine it takes a while to heat up all of that oil.

This big easy says 15 minutes per pound for turkey, but I have found it is actually less than that, probably closer to 10 minutes per pound. I think frying in oil is 3-5 minutes per pound.
