Did a search and didn't see this posted so here goes.

Not sure when this was introduced but TWC is offering 2Mbps cable internet service for $14.99 per month as their "Everyday Low Price" speed. My one year promotional period just ended for a higher speed and this was sufficient for my typical internet usage. This is obviously not enough for the speed demons but should be good enough for those folks who just email and do casual surfing.

Their "Basic" plan is a 3x1, whereas this is a 2x1.

Hmmm...My standard 15/1 expired and I was offered 29.99 for basic(3/1). How do I get this rate?

My brother-in-law just signed up for this plan. It is for new internet customers only. Install cost $20 and there are no equipment or leasing fees because I picked up the Target deal on the Motorola SB6141 cable modem for him. Use your own modem and your own router. Don't pay a stupid leasing fee! $14.99 package is perfect for his needs: NO gaming and only minimal NETFLIX use.

I dont think this is for new customers. I was on their basic plan after the promo rate and called in for this one. They just hit a few buttons on their end and my speed dropped immediately. Good thing the bill drops by half along with it.

That's great! Usually they are jerks about letting you "take advantage of a promotion" if you're a current customer. Gotta play the game: threaten to cancel etc.

actually gaming would probably be fine if thats all you were doing at the time.

its latency that matters (which should be no different from any other TWC plan), not bandwidth.
2Mbit/sec and 1Mbit/sec up is perfectly acceptable for just about any type online gameplay.

odd to me that you would type netflix in all caps too (while recognizing my own capitalization is inconsistent as well).

He may eventually upgrade his speed. BTW, I'm also rocking 15mb down plan with an SB5101.

I told him that I will trade my SB5101 for his SB6141 and give him $20.bounce

DOCSIS 3.0 !!!laugh out loud

My understanding is that 3Mbit/sec was recommended for Xbox Live. Other forms of online gaming may do well with lower speeds. TWC upstream speeds may be the source of a bottleneck for gaming too. Upstream speeds don't always reach near 1Mbit/sec.

NETFLIX!!!

they gave me 15/1 (well, "16.2/1.1") for $29.99 month. you'd rather have 2/1?

consider who and why they 'recommend' 3mbit/sec.

twc recommends it because they want you to buy a faster plan
xbox recommends it because they want you to have a good all around experience (think downloading games, downloading/streaming content from their store).

i am not aware of a game, console or pc that would fall over from not having a constant 250KB/sec download or upload speed. 1mbit IS cutting it a little close on the upload, and for exactly the reason you state. but in reality it should still be fine for most people with no other concurrent traffic.
