Frequently Asked Questions/ FAQs

What Color is the Photon?
For a limited time only, we’re doing a special Platinum holiday edition of the Photon!

How is this different than the Overdrive Pro?
The Photon is our flagship device. It is also our best selling. At half the thickness of the Overdrive pro, the Photon does not have an LCD screen, but it was an excellent battery life of 6+ hours and is our sleekest and most compact hotspot.
Is this 4G LTE? Is this 3G?
The Photon is a 4G WiMAX capable hotspot only. It is not compatible with LTE or 3G. To check on coverage, visit www.freedompop.com/coverage [freedompop.com]

When will devices be shipped?
These special edition Platinum Photon’s will begin shipping in 1-2 weeks, but we’re working our hardest to push this date up.

Is this device Refurbished?
This is a refurbished device, but unlike our other devices, they have been repackaged and inspected by our logistics department and not a third party manufacturer.

Previously, we did have some reports of scratched or dented Overdrive Pros from a third party supplier. Our device supplier alerted us to a situation where several devices with cosmetic blemishes were mixed into our shipments. As soon as we found the issue, we sent out an email and implemented an exchange program. We have yet to receive any reports regarding poor quality refurbished Photons.

Is there a non usage, or inactivity fee of $0.99?
A thing of the past. We previously passes along the cost on to our customer, but we’ve begun to implement a way to waive this fee altogether for new users and eventually, everyone.

Have a Billing Issue?
We encourage all our users to come to us first to see if we can explain any charge or resolve any billing issue before further escalation.

Customer Support:
We’ve ramped up our customer service team significantly in or to answer your email request within 48 hours. If you absolutely must speak to us, we’ve created a special phone number for slickdeals users only at (888) 743-8107 (M-F 9am-5pm PDT). Please use this number so we can set them as priority during promotions for you.

Do you provide return shipping?
We do ask you pay for return shipping. This may appear frugal on our part, but we’d rather push the boundaries on how much free data we give away each day.

How do I add another device to my existing account?
Unfortunately, at this time, we’re not able to have multiple devices under one account for data tracking purposes. Each device must be activated under a unique account, but this works out really great because you can connect the accounts through Freedom Friends to receive even more free data each month.

===================

Make sure you use a prepaid credit card to sign up so it doesn't charge you overages.
you can do these things to protect against unwanted charges:

1) Sign up with a prepaid credit card
2) After purchase, turn off automatic refills (menus: Billing-Billing Settings-Automatice Top-off = "No". To protect you and FP, once you select this, FP will shut off your service for the remainder of the month 100mb before you hit your cap, per their system. I bolded "per their system", because they get usage data from Sprint up to 3 hours after you use it. So it is possible to exceed the cap before you or FP know it, at which point FP will shut off your service until you pay for the usage above your cap, regardless of whether the next month's allotment would have brought it to zero.
3) After purchase, go to menu: My Account-Services and make sure that the info box at the top of the page starts with: "You have not signed up for any services yet. " If you have signed up for services, you can remove most from this same page. If you have trouble, email or call Support
4) Since you are registering this device through the "Activate My Device" link on the FP website, you will have the option to select the Free Plan right out of the gate. Go ahead and do this now, rather than selecting the free 1 month @ x GBs, as otherwise you'll have to call FP's Support line to get it downgraded back to Free. If you take the free GB's for one month, you will have to call support to downgrade to free at some point in the month. If you're not sure what you signed up for, you can go to menu: My Account-Plans, and make certain that in the far left box, where it says "My Plan", that it reads "Free 500mb" at some point during the free month.
Thanks to no1g8r!

For Black Friday, we're having a limited edition Platinum color Photon with the lowest price that we've ever offered it. During our Slickdeals promo it's only $29.99 compared to the regular price of $99.

We do have one device the Mifi 500 that is capable of using Sprint's 4G LTE network; however this isn't on sale today on Slickdeals. Have you checked out the Photon the 4G WiMAX's coverage area yet?

We just had an Overdrive Pro deal! Did you miss it? And thanks so much for spreading the word. We really appreciate it. Go back in the recent freedompop deal history on slickdeals and maybe you'll be able to find the ODP
