anyone recieve one of these things from new egg and have it be a definite used item or refurb? mine was.. box was all scrapped up. instructions all crumbled and all accessories are out of thier bags and un twisty tied.. back to newegg it goes... hope these were not mislabeled refurbs listed as new...
Mine was delivered yesterday brand new. It was shipped in a bobbled envelope via DHL and postal service so the outside box was a little squashed but no damages to the unit. I 'm getting a very good service in brooklyn, 10-12 mbps download/ 1.5 upload.

Would not recommend anyone give this company one penny of your money. Been trying to get their hardware and services to work since May, with dozens of wasted hours of my time. Every single time I have needed it to work, it has failed me (on vacation, on the car train, at a forest cabin, etc). Its not the coverage - I have a Virgin Mobile WiFi that works fine, and both are on Sprint. The first Freedompop device wouldn't hold a charge,. After several emails, they sent a new charger and battery. Another month of trying and emails, and they finally agreed to replace the device. I had to send it back, and it took 3 weeks to get another POS refurb. This second one has been reset so many times that the reset button is broken. Oh, and when it does power on and connect, it won't let me get to the internet! Something is messed up in the account settings, and they can't figure it out. First level phone support keeps saying they'll have a second level call me back, and they never do. Now, they don't even respond to a tech support email. Way to go! If you can't fix it, just ignore the customer! AVOID THESE GUYS!!!

Hmm that should definitely not come to you in that condition even if it is refurbed. Definitely contact Newegg about it, and let us know how it goes.

I recently tried FreedomPOP and it was a big FAIL... website wouldn't even work (multiple error pages), slimy sales tactics, and requiring a credit card even though I just wanted to try the totally free service first. I gave up because I didn't want to waste hours trying to get my device activated with a company that tries to trick people into signing up for stuff they don't really want and makes it difficult to cancel when they do.

So I'm sending my device back to Amazon.

got mine from newegg. Won't work at home but works in the places it's supposed to with 4G, so turns my crappy 3G + wifi phone into 4G.

Sounds like you might have run into some browser errors while trying to activate your device. I'm sorry to hear that. It's possible that clearing the cache or using a different browser could have helped. I can see what I can do for you if you'd like to PM the email you used for your account.

I'm 99.9% sure the problems were not on my end. I tried with 2 different browsers and the errors I received were server errors.

Besides, unless FreedomPop wants to stop trying to trick people into sign up for stuff then I'm not interested. If they stop this, then let me know and I may try again.

It's possible our activation page was experiencing some server side errors. My apologies for the inconvenience. I'd be happy to assist you in configuring your account to your preferences if you would like to PM me.

Tell you what, I'll try again if you give me your credit card to use for checkout since I don't want to be buying anything just yet, don't have easy access to virtual credit cards, and don't exactly trust FreedomPop not to charge me for stuff I don't agree to. Deal? Big Grin

OK... Maybe I'll try you guys out again next year, hopefully when FreedomPop has resolved some of the issues I've mentioned.

I bought one of these, and after some prompt assistance from the FP rep here with an initial URL redirect issue, I'm able to get connected in the two locales I've tried - near the San Francisco airport, and downtown Louisville, KY.

Just a heads up. In the past, I've had a relatively positive experience with FreedomPop. They have some pretty tricky sales tactics (you're automatically enrolled in the premier services that cost a monthly fee, you have to wait hours to talk to a CSR, and responses to emails takes upwards of a week); however, I ordered the Freedom Spot Photon (refurbished) from Groupon and I emailed the CSR asking them to remove the features that cost a monthly fee 3 weeks ago and I still haven't received a response (I sent subsequent emails 2 weeks and 5 days ago just to make sure they received the message). Other SD members had luck with FreedomPop--the dedicated SD forum CSR, but I didn't. He/she said they removed the pay-for-services, but lo and behold--they are still there. I've decided to return my device(s), and just wanted others to be forewarned before they are nickel and dimed by this company.
