price at Amazon went up to $2399. $2149 price is no longer available.

researched on calibration settings for the TC-P65VT60 and following is what I had found
and will continue to update wiki as more info becomes available

from AVS forum

quote from hungro

"I would 'break in ' the tv by watching full screen content, if you must watch letterbox or black bars top and bottom then stretch the picture to fullscreen avoid any static images for long periods of time. Continue this practice all the time except after say 100hrs you can leave the letter box image on just change back to full screen and so on ,change up your content as much as you can."

**********
quote from GeorgeAB

"Your fallacy is that it can be generally assumed that if you swap settings it will get your display "in the ball park." In some cases, it has been demonstrated to also place your display farther "out in the parking lot" than factory preset picture modes. In other cases, use of a setup disc works better for the display owner than factory modes or swapping settings. That option also carries with it the bonus of the tutorial process in the program, which actually teaches the user about video principles and display capabilities.

People who may not have the budget capacity to hire a professional calibrator, or buy the instrumentation to perform a professional-level service themselves, can easily afford a free AVS HD709 download or the $30.00 or so for a well-featured system setup disc. That way they can end up smarter from the use, rather than guessing whether or not their swapped settings actually did what they wanted."

**************
quote from willieconway:

"to set brightness and contrast: use the free disc at http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/...alibrationto set brightness and contrast. Adjust the model-specific settings e.g. Panel Brightness according to what everybody else here uses (PB on Mid and I believe Gamma on 2.4)"

************
quote from Chad B

"Home Theater mode and THX Cinema mode are the best looking modes before calibration.

I have had many customers use the WOW disc and end up with unnecessarily low contrast and light output. I haven't used it myself.

THX Cinema is the most accurate measuring mode before calibration. Your best bet would be to use THX Cinema and download the free AVS 709 disc to help you check basic settings.

If you want to go a step beyond that and get into DIY calibration, an i1D3 meter with CalMAN or ChromaPure is relatively inexpensive. Some training (maybe Michael's videos) would be a good idea."

If you still want to get a list of calibration setting values as a comparison guide, one is listed at Plasma TV Buying Guide but I would suggest reading more about calibration settings at AVS Forum first before using provided settings.

Costco Square Trade warranty coverage

went to Cosco today and asked about the 3 years Square Trade warranty. following is what the guy in the red vest and the Costco name tag working next to the big TVs told me

1. $99 - 5year warranty only applies if you buy your TV from Costco. First 2 years warranty is covered by Costco through the manufacturer. Costco has negotiated with the manufacturer to provide 2 years of warranty coverage instead of the normal 1 year with other stores. Costco itself are not in the warranty or insurance business.

2. The 3 years Square Trade warranty starts after the first 2 years giving you a total of 5 years only applies if you buy your TV from Costco.

3. You can buy the 3 years Square Trade warranty coverage if you buy your TV from another factory authorized dealer but the 3 year warranty starts from the day of the purchase and not after the first year of warranty from the manufacturer expires or any warranty extension through credit card companies.

Now, I can understand that not all Costco salespeople may be the final authority with regards to Square Trade coverage. It is probably wise to call SquareTrade at 1-877-927-7268 to confirm if you have any doubt of the above ST summary or any additional questions.

Was going to pick up the 65ST60 tomorrow pricematched for $1950 (@panasonic.com), but $200 more = done deal.

For those that want a truly slickdeal, go to Albertsons and buy amazon gift cards in $100 denominations. Each GC will print out a $20 off $20 coupon you can use at albertsons (expires in a week). I did $2k worth tonight in preparation for buying the ST60 tomorrow = $400 in free groceries. This couldn't have come at a better time!

That said, I'm not sure how long amazon will keep this price up as it's cheaper than their ST60 at the moment. From past experience, this will last for only a few hours.

Edit: For those interested in the albertsons deal, here's a link. expires 12/3.

Thanks for the info but all of our local Albertsons were converted to Lucky's so no $400 of groceries for me! Smilie Hope you'll enjoy the TV. I postponed delivery of mine to until after Xmas to give me more time to ponder over the purchase and figure out where to install it.

This is a really awesome price... was looking at Paul's TV.... they've had this model for $2299 for a while...

Unfortunately I have a hankering for the ZT60 model... I know, very small difference from the VT60, but I want the additional ambient light rejection on the ZT60 model... I hope Amazon drops the price... Paul's TV has it for $2899 now...

Thanks for posting this deal! I got this tv from amazon 13 days ago so they should still honor their low price guarantee. This is a great deal for this tv. I've had it for about a week now and I'm very happy with it. The picture is great.

Best set on the planet - better features than the ZT. Ugh, wanted the 60" at $1799. Now they have the 65" for $250 more shipped free. Gawd, this is killing me. Gotta do it. Lived with my Sammy plasma since 2007 and loved it.

Need to warrant it with Square Trade. Hoping they still have the 40% off deal.

I got this from Paul's last Friday at $2300, submitting for price adjustment now. I really wish they'd deliver my tv already!

Paul's tv denied price match since Amazoncharges tax in az. worth a try tho.

yes, I think a few people will agree the Panasonic plasma has better picture quality than the Samsung LCD/LED TVs. The only worry I have is the ambient light reflection of the glossy screen with the plasmas.

Just got amazon to refund me the difference as I bought the tv a week ago, coupled with the fact that amazon gave me a free panasonic soundbar with my purchase, I'd say I got a great deal.
