EDIT: Confirmed, the hardware *is* identical to the R6300v2. The only difference is the boardid value programmed into the router by default. This router has U12H240T99_NETGEAR, the R6300v2 has U12H240T00_NETGEAR. The thread above talks about changing it.
In CMD: telnetenable 192.168.1.1 MACADDRESS Gearguy Geardog
In Telnet: burnboardid U12H240T00_NETGEAR
Thanks for posting the guide radengr!

Cartman:Dude, check it out! Time Cop on DVD. Three copies for eighteen bucks!
Kyle:Why the hell would you want three copies of the same movie?
Cartman:Because one copy is nine ninety-eight! But this way you save like twenty bucks!
Kyle:You only need one copy, artard!
Cartman:Okay, fine, dumbass, YOU go ahead and buy one copy for nine ninety-eight!
Kyle:Okay, fine, I will! Huh, wait a minute! I don't even want ONE copy of Time Cop!
Cartman:Dude, you can't shop for crap.
So in order to upgrade the AC1450 to AC1650 should I first upgrade firmware to R6300v2 and then telnet to update the boarded ....or the other way around?
Gather everything in the "guide" above and then plug a cable into one of the LAN ports on the router (not the WAN port).
From a cmd prompt navigate to where you put the files. "Telnetenable" into the router using "telnetenable 192.168.1.1 MACADDRESS Gearguy Geardog" and replacing the MACADDRESS with the routers MAC (on the sticker). When that finishes, type "telnet" into your command prompt to bring up a telnet prompt. You'll need to make sure your OS has telnet enabled, you can google on how to do that. When in a telnet prompt type "burnboardid U12H240T00_NETGEAR". It should let you know that it burned that ID to the board.
Now you can reset your router, go to the router admin page, and upgrade to the R6300v2 firmware. Once the upgrade is complete, you can upgrade to a DD-WRT firmware, which I recommend. http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/view...6c436c5f27 http://desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm
