Imaging Resource review: http://www.imaging-resource.com/P...y-a58A.HTM
Pull quote: "It's a challenge to weigh the pros and cons of the Sony A58, especially since it's not an across-the-board step up from the A57. However, we think the advances in image quality make the camera a tremendous value for beginners. In fact, we believe the A58 produces arguably the best straight-from-the-camera photos across the board -- including in low light, high ISO situations -- of any entry-level DSLR we've tested to date. With the A58, Sony has once again served notice to Canon and Nikon that it's a force to be reckoned with in the DSLR arena."

This is a very good deal but I suspect Sony is phasing out SLT technology, so this thing will be obsolete with no use for the lenses.

There are some new A mount cameras coming out next year. Plus you have the huge current selection of Minolta and Sony A mount lenses to choose from. This is a much better deal than the D3200 $499 deal.

I think it's a great deal. People get so stuck on the Canon/Nikon train, they're really missing what's out there. There's a lot of great innovative cameras out there, not just Sony. But Sony is really on the cutting edge of the technology curve with these things that the future is actually exciting to anticipate, and they're forcing competitors to innovate more. It's such an improvement over the incremental upgrades we've seen in the past. I'm not married to any one brand, I just call it like I see it. I've been using Canon DSLRs since the original Digital Rebel; they've made great stuff and continue to, but Sony does too, and pushes the envelope.

Naysayers have been predicting the demise of Sony's Alpha cameras since they bought out Minolta, as if anything else is guaranteed in this world. They've been saying this for a long time now, and it's just silly anymore. If you don't grow and innovate, attract new customers and keep current ones happy, you're not going to last for very long no matter who you are.

Called B&H today and they gave me the 50.00 gift card since I had previously ordered this before the gift card came with it. Save 5% more by using google wallet on their mobile site...Thanks OP!

Surprised this didn't get more traction with thumbs up.

I've been a Sony DSLR owner for years and it has always done a good job of shooting, but I did recently buy a Canon t4i which I'm enjoying as well. Thumbs up.

Great deal. I have an A57, last year's model, and it's wonderful. It is rated 5 stars on Amazon - the best I've seen. This one supposedly has even better image quality.

Just bought the t3i for $429. Should I return that and buy this instead? TIA!

Only if you are going to use the 55-200mm lens that comes with Sony.
