A heads up for all of the scotch drinkers out there. The Kirkland Signature™ Glenlivet Distillery 40-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has arrived at the warehouses. I am not sure on the price, because they will not give it to me over the phone. My local Costco Alpharetta, GA only had 3 bottles on hand.

EDIT: $700 in So Cal. Post your location price if it is any different.

Thanks for the heads up, I saw the 21 yr old Aberfeldy for $109 and the 12 yr old was $32.

So two years ago, the Costco scotch was a MaCallan product that people seemed to like. Last year it was a 20 year old Kirkland branded scotch that I didn't think was very good...even for the price.

If this is good and not astronomically expensive (like a 40 year old scotch should be), this could be good since it's a Glenlievet product.

I don't think anyone figured out the distiller of last year's scotch. It's still sitting on my shelf because I don't drink it.

EDIT: post above says $700...i'm out!

EDIT #2: Just like last year, this is 40% ABV. That's generally low for a scotch.

Costco house brand liquors are bought from top end. don't take my word for it, buy a bottle to compare to your usual stuff and you will be impressed, or at the very least surprised. Costco isn't always the cheapest but Kirkland brand crap has rarely let me down

Oh, I wasn't knocking Kirkland brand at all, I was just expressing my surprise that it's moved into high end whiskey.

40% ABV isn't low for scotch. sure you have single barrel/cask strength scotch but then again they aren't your standard scotch...

I went to a Macallan rent and asked the guy the difference between Kirkland 15 yr by Macallan vs the Macallan 15, basically the guy said something along the lines of the output of the Kirkland 15 doesn't meet the expectation from the whiskey master, so they're not bottled as Macallan 15 but the making process is the same.

I dont understand why people seem to think this is a ridiculous price for the whiskey. Its 40 year old scotch... take the present value of $700 at 40 years for anything at a reasonable discount rate and its really only about $10-20. Lets consider the time value of money here now, SDers...

No, just no. Do the math. Not even close.

You're skipping over an important part of TVM, namely real vs nominal rates. Unless you're discounting at a real rate (not nominal) then those are 1973 dollars, not 2013.
