Got mine yesterday. Also order the Logitech Airplay speaker for ~$65 AR from Tiger Direct today. Will compare both. Only complaint is the Pioneer is kind of boomy. Great for loud volume/parties, but for low volume listening, the bass overwhelms. If running a stream from a PC, you can equalize using audio controls; not easily done from an Iphone, however.

I am not sure if you already tried "flat" or "bass reducer" on your iPhone equalizer but it should help. I will pick up mine this weekend and quite worried about the woofer.

[1] For streaming media files (whether on your device or on a media server), there are several apps on Android. Some use AirPlay, some use DLNA (or the non-licensed uPnP). For AirPlay, there's Streambels and doubleTwist (with AirTunes). For DLNA/uPnP, there's BubbleUPNP and dozens of other apps, some which may be built in to the phone's music player. If you're on a rooted Anddroid device, then you have additional options which work more like AirPlay on iOS (stream all audio on your device), one app is AirStream (for AirPlay). There's also the Pioneer ControlApp for streaming local device music, vTuner, and Pandora (more info in [2])

[2] There is an Android and iOS app for the speaker called Pioneer ControlApp. It's more for controlling volume and streaming local music, Pandora, and vTuner. If you want your device to be ready and not have to manually turned on all the time, enable Quick Start mode by holding down the Input button for 3 seconds until the network light flashes. This will let you not have to do a full boot every time and the speaker should still show as available and turn itself on when you start streaming (some issues with this for me since the speaker won't fully wake up on it's own for Spotify Connect, but does for AirPlay).

[3] Airplay is the only feature which constantly streams from your phone. DLNA typically consists of three devices: a media server, a media renderer, and a remote. If you are using your device as the server and remote (playing back a local file) then it will drain battery, but if you're using it as only a remote (to play a file from another media server), then there's no drain. The other features including Spotify Connect and listening to Pandora via the ControlApp work more like Chromecast. You use your phone (or other device) to tell the speaker what to stream and it connects and streams on its own, freeing up your device and not draining its batteries.
Thanks for your tips. I noticed that the Android App doesn't have spotify. The iOS app has Spotify connect. And two days back spotify can also be accessed without going to the premium tier (dont know the catch yet.. may be time limited). And it also supports Spotify connect. Spotify via airplay works nice.. now trying to see if spotify connect works or not.

For anyone who picked this up, to sure to update the firmware - it adds direct Spotify connect, which allows you to bypass Airplay and directly control the A4 through Spotify. It's kind of bizarre - I can play Pandora through my Iphone why simultaneously running Spotify through the A4, controlled by my Iphone. It also allows you to control the A4 volume at the device level.

This also allows you to control the A4 even if its not on the same wi-fi network, something Airplay can't do.

Will updating the firmware fix my problem of recognizing my Pioneer A4 via the ControlApp on my HTC one? I know all my devices should be on the same network, since I can use Airplay on Itunes with my Macbook to the A4.

One way to find out - but I think the answer is yes. I control the A4 natively through Spotify. I do not have the ControlApp installed, so it's not needed to work (but I'm on an IOS device, maybe Android is different)..

This model is being discontinued by Pioneer for whatever reason:

Not sure about the smaller siblings in the line.

Seems like more and more AirPlay speakers are being discontinued. Hopefully AirPlay won't be phased out, unless something better comes along.

Maybe new versions are on the way.
