EDIT 12/17/2013: This deal has been superseded by a slicker one:
H&R Block 2013 Deluxe + State + eFile Free! 12-16-2013 - Slickdeals.net
I have checked the ISO (Windows part only) in that thread and it is legitimate (all digital signatures are ok).

I received a promotional CD in the mail from H&R Block today, one of the "pass along to a friend" ones. I have uploaded that CD labeled "2013 FULL VERSION TAX SOFTWARE". It looks like they dropped the "At Home" wording from their software. Also I have attached a scan of the CD sleeve to this post for detailed information but here's the basic rundown:
  • Deluxe $10
  • Deluxe + State $15
  • Premium + State $25
Fine print says prices applicable through 2/14/2014. Also you may be able to get it cheaper because the "last chance" offer method from last year still works apparently:

FYI - I was offered an additonal $5 off when I started to purchase and decided to cancel and do later - went ahead and took it - great deal!
See mikefxu's post for a screenshot walkthrough on the additional $5 discount, and reps to both him and jabajet.

All versions above come with:
  • "Free unlimited real-time chat with a tax expert" (new)
  • "FREE AUDIT SUPPORT"
  • "One federal program & five free federal e-files"

Other important information you should know before you buy:
  • H&R Block charges Mac users more. It's looking highly unlikely you will see any discount pricing if you are a Mac user. Mac users Lava and Darksid3 (reps to them) report they get pricing of $25 for Deluxe+State in a Mac. User Darksid3 then tried in Windows and got the discount pricing.
  • If you earned less than $57k and are age 52 or younger you can file Federal taxes through H&R Block's website (no software) for free, and you may also receive free state e-file depending on your state (see the state list at the end of this post). For more information consult their homepage. [hrblock.com]
  • Although the +State versions include a state program of your choosing you may still have to pay for state e-file. I'm sure someone will find a way around that like they did last year. For some states you don't have to pay for e-file and/or e-file may now be required (ie New York). See the state list at the end of this post.
  • H&R Block is running their free promotion again this year, as reported by user shandril (reps to him). The promotion is Deluxe+State, and 5 Federal and 1 State e-files, for free. [dropbox.com]. Refer to the edit at very the top of this thread for more information.

Use one of the links below to download the ISO and then mount it or burn it to a CD. It should start automatically if you have autorun enabled, but if you have it disabled you can start the program by clicking on tcauto.exe. Some users (moon_2100 & JuMpMaN6235, reps to them) are reporting it is also possible to run tcauto after using WinRAR or 7-zip to extract the files from the ISO instead of mounting or burning.

  2. HRBlock2013.iso [dropbox.com]
  3. HRBlock2013.iso [dropbox.com]
  4. HRBlock2013.iso [live.com]
  5. HRBlock2013.iso [live.com]
  6. HRBlock2013.iso [mega.co.nz] (if you have an HTML5 browser this is one of the fastest, but if you don't the download could stop abruptly so use one of the other links instead)
SHA1 hash:
f728028f623a5a4c823f37f766528ae8e7b5111e *HRBlock2013.iso

Additional +State e-file fee information.
New York specific:
According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, for 2013 [ny.gov]:
"Most taxpayers who use software [H&R Block, TaxSlayer, TurboTax, etc] to prepare their income tax returns must also e-file." And it goes on to say: "There are no additional charges: The cost of tax preparation software includes the e-filing service. In fact, New York law prohibits an additional charge for e-filing."
Other states *may* have similar rules: AR, AZ, DE, GA, IA, ID, IN, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, ND, NC, NY, OK, OR, RI, SC, VA, VT, WV, DC.
Add information for your state to the wiki or let me know and I'll add it here.

Other tax deals (If you know of any I can put them here or use the wiki):
H&R Block Deluxe 2013 free after $60 rebate (FAR) when purchased with Total Internet Security [tigerdirect.com]
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I can confirm that it only works on Windows.
Thanks for testing I repped you. I've never tried this but you may be able to purchase in Windows and then reinstall on a Mac. There may be a support link in the upper right hand corner on the splash screen when you run the program on a Mac. If you click that there may be an option 'Second Machine installation'. I really don't know if you buy it on Windows if it will let you install on Mac. If you're going to take the risk please let everyone know what happens.

Is there any way to complete this without burning a CD? I don't have a CD burner. Advice appreciated.

Yeah if you have Windows 8 you can mount the CD without any additional software. If you have an earlier version you can try ImDisk [ltr-data.se]. Download the version from October 2013. It should be digitally signed by the author (GlobalSign/Lagerkvist Teknisk Radgivning i Boras HB).

If you have Winrar program you can also open the ISO file.

7-Zip is the easiest method. Install it, then right click on the HR block ISO then "extract to HRblock2013"

Funny I just received the disk from them today and my offer was $10 more, so I closed it out, installed the iso from the OP and paid $10 for Deluxe + State. Yeah you might be able to wait and get it for a few dollars less, but what if you can't and this offer is long gone (unlike death and taxes). Dontknow

Thanks, OP! Repped.

Don't buy toilet tissues as well. Whenever you need to poop, go to McD's or Walmart and use their free toilets! No need to waste water at your house either!laugh out loud

Then use their utensils and free condiments, ie ketchup, mustard, etc. Might as well use their plastic cups while you're at it.

$5 and people still wanna hold out for cheaper deal. Talk about.....insert your adjective here.......wave
The beauty of slickdeals, everyone chooses their level of savings based on how they value their time and quality of life. At this point, I've even stopped doing most rebates, not worth the time for me laugh out loud

This is Slickdeals. If I know I can get it for free, why would I spend $5?

Your examples are stupid because my TIME is not FREE.

Get out of this site if you have a problem with people waiting for better deal.

I'm running OS X Mavericks and I installed it on a Windows 7 VirtualBox partition for $10.

However, I don't see a way to add a second install on my Mac anywhere using the OS X setup program. It only gives me the option to install/download/pay for it again. I don't mind running it virtualized in Windows 7, but it would be nice to have the native app as well.

Ok thanks for the info. I attached a screenshot showing how it can be done in Windows, but maybe that option is not available in the Mac installer.

Got it. Thanks OP. $10 is a good price and not having to try and jump on a cheaper deal / spend more time with a new deal is worth paying a bit more now.
