I personally use a hand strap and prefer it over any other way of securing my dslr. That said, you may be OK with the model in the OP, and the price is certainly right.

Yes. There are cheaply made products, and a lot are from china. But made in china is not the rubber stamp of cheap, low quality and easily broken junk. I think the biggest indicator is the amount you pay. For the most part, you get what you pay for.
Almost everything is made on china now. Your iPhone is made in china...
