TU and repped for Rexman for his research and reply to my PM. I might have to bite on that Black Licorice HP. This would be for a soon-to-be 10yr old girl, non-gamer, except for that darn Roblox game!

I found my AMEX offer when I logged into my account since ShopDiscover won't work
You're welcome, and good luck. I might have to get me one of those AMEX one day, but not this year. I just recently got my Discover card.

So stupid question regarding USB 3.0. Looking to get something like this and pair it with a dock to support mouse/keyboard and monitor. Not sure the monitor can't be plugged in separately, but was thinking we need a 3.0 to support video, LAN etc. True? Ideas?

I don't see why you couldn't just use the USB 2.0 ports for your keyboard and mouse, and use a monitor or hdmi port for an external monitor, and use the integrated network port or wireless. I didn't check all of these deals to see which models offer which ports, but I don't see USB 2.0 as a roadblock for your goal.

i decided today to buy myself a laptop for xmas and a backlit keyboard is a must. was hoping for some advice. i havent built a computer in 2 years so im kind of out of the loop on all the new stuff out. it would have to be at least an i3 and no less than a 14" display. basically i'll be using it for some gaming, not a lot, thats what all the xbox's are for and just every day computing. open for advice....and obviously, the cheaaper the better

In for one. Just picked up at best buy. Plus AMEX $25 off $250. $275 + tax. Buy now, think later. Sale is today only. Have until Jan 15th to decide. No restocking fee.

So, What's all the fuss over a backlit keyboard anyway. It's nice to have but is it really necessary. Just curious.

If you are watching Porn in a darkroom, you can't type without backlit keyboard
You may end up trying to type "hot girl" but it will become "hot gay". That's the Problem woot

in my family of 4..we have 3 LT's.

2 w/o..BLK

1 w BLK

i can tell you that the BLK helps quite a bit...

if for example..it is late at night (or early in the am) and you have a spouse or little kid sleeping in the same bed room..the BL helps to keep the light low and help u see what u r typing

especually if u have one spouse that likes to work late into the nite (like my wife) and one that wakes up pretty early in the am (like me)

in any event..just my 2cents

Well there's that Acer on Newegg. The cheapest I've seen an i5 without going through the outlet system is that Gateway from MS Store at $329. But it gone pretty quickly and have been OOS for awhile now. Most i5, especially Haswell rarely drop below $400.
I got that Gateway but this is somewhat tempting with the $25 credit from Amex.

super basic. i'd pass if i had $500 or more to spend on a laptop.

$500 should be the minimum if youre doing to some serious shopping, even for a budget laptop. then if you find a deal you're really saving money instead of settling for less.

Only 160 sold in 24 hours on eBay. Would be much more if this was really hot.

Backlit keyboards are very nice, not just in the dark, but even in low lighting, especially for people who can't see as well in low light. The problem is, I've never seen it on a new 15.6" laptop for less than $499, and currently, I don't know of one under $699 that has a backlit keyboard, excluding refurbs, used, and obsolete models slower than a celeron. So I think you will have to forget about the "backlit keyboard is a must" if you want as cheap as possible.

You're not going to get a system that would make a hard core gamer happy, but you're not going to get a better deal than for $299. And as long as you're realistic in the performance for integrated Intel Ivy graphics, you should be satisfied in general.

If you want a true gamer's computer with discrete graphics, powerful processor, 1080p display, and backlit keyboard, you better think of spending more like a $1000, and off hand, I don't know a laptop incorporating all of that, but it definitely wouldn't be what I would refer to as "cheap as possible."

When I added the item to my cart on ebay, there was tax added on.

I think this is a decent deal, thanks OP.
