What happens if you go over the 500 MB/month? It just stops? They don't charge you extra, do they?
There are two ways this works. First, you have (by default) Automatic TopUp enabled. In this case, when you exceed 400mb, they go ahead and charge you for predicted usage. This, to me, defeats the purpose of 'free' data that they advertise.
The second route, having Automatic TopUp disabled, will result in your hotspot being limited (i.e. no internet) until the next month. Based on the FAQ on their site, it shuts down at 400mb-ish, to ensure that you don't go over the limit.
The first thing I did when I finished ordering was go into the settings and disable Automatic TopUp. If I want to add data, I'll do it myself. But, that's my opinion on it.
Do they let you use your own phone that you go through another carrier that's now off-contract or bought unlocked. and if so which ones? The HTC EVO is pretty old and only supports the increasingly obsolete WiMax.
I don't recall anyone mentioning the fact that there is a 3hr window before they cap your data limit.
Top-up my account automatically when my balance falls below $2.00.
By disabling this feature, you may experience interruption of service should you approach your Data Capacity limit. Also, actual data usage may be delayed up to 3 hours so manage your data accordingly.
Freedompop is a scam.
You all guys come back and read this post from me after few days for a group crying together for the loss of $$.
Dont give your personal or real credit card info to them. You see what would happen down the line.
Anyway I signed up for this. I think this will be useful once you have it configured not to top off and you downgrade to the free plan. This service will go away in a year. This is based on WiMax systems which are going away.
I've been on the fence since when it was $40... I finally pulled the trigger for $10.
