I am sorry if I put this int he wrong section
However, I just called to cancel my comcast internet and tried to call back immediately to open new service under a different name. But, the sales dpt. told me that since there is still service (I'm still able to use internet) I have to wait a few hours to a day to open it under my name. Have anyone gotten this? Is there anyway around this? My internet can be down for a max of a couple of hours, but I need it for work.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Usually, if u only have Internet Service that you cancelled, it may take up to a week to get it completely cancelled. Call them & ask on which date agent is actually going to cancel the service. As far as billing is concerned, it is cancelled on the day when u called, so u won't get charged any further. Its just that the connection will remain active until they actually cancels it.

Check into the public library or free wifi hotspots to get you thru if you do experience any outage.

Interesting. When I did it almost exactly a year ago, I asked the rep to cancel me immediately, and she did. My modem actually lost service during the call. At that time I waited a day or two (can't remember, I was out of town, it was during the holidays) and had a friend reactivate the new account.

If you ask him for immediate cancellation, they cancel it immediately. I've also experienced it last year. This year I told them to cancel as of today & I didn't mention "immediately" & it took ~12 days for cancellation.

I asked for immediate cancellation, however I owed them money, so I paid that off and its been a couple of days and I still have internet. I think I'm going to call them again and see if I can cancel

I am thinking of doing something similar - cancel Internet and TV and signup again under spouse's name to get the new customer promotion (they are not giving $49.99 blast plus promotion for existing customers). Do I have to wait for a day or two after cancellation before signing up online for the new service? TIA.

Seems to be the only way to get promotions these days... Any update on your situation?

I haven't made any changes yet. In another thread, some people were saying that they canceled and signed up using a new promotion under their own name (it looks like Comcast is doing a hard pull on the credit report). I might try that.

You must speak to cancellation/retention department in order to get a deal.

In my area, Indianapolis, they just switched to digital encrypted tv. So, I had always had Internet only, but could get free basic channels. No longer.

On top of this, my Internet bill just jumped from $29 to $49. So, I called retentions. Got a surprisingly nice lady on the phone. She looked, said no more promotions for my current Internet speed. Said she could put me on a package, and apply a monthly discount.

She kept my current Internet speed (25mbps), put me on the plus package (local channels and HBO...non-HD), for $39.99/mo. Then she was going to apply a $10/mo discount for 12 months, bringing it to $29.99. I asked about other fees/taxes, since I had none w/ just Internet. She said she wasn't sure, but that adding video would likely add fees. So, she then told me that she would apply a $15 discount per month, instead of $10. I couldn't believe it.

So, I got basic TV (non-HD), HBO, a free box, same web speed...for $25/mo + taxes/fees for video! Had they just left my my bill alone, they would have came out ahead. Now I'm getting more for less/or about same as I had been paying.

Me = 1 Comcast = 0

Best comcast experience ever, and I am still in shock.

That is unbelievable! Do you have a name or extension for her? My Comcast service is also in Indiana.

I have tried to change my Comcast service 4 times within the last 3 weeks because my Performance Internet jumped from $29.99/month to $49.99/month (6 months at $29.99/month, then 6 months at $49.99/month, then to regular rate at $64.99/month was the new customer plan that was available when I signed -up). I have made the change requests online, and Comcast hasn't even notified me that I am ineligible for the different changes because I am already a Comcast customer. I had to call them to find out why my requested change wasn't taking effect.

The 4 different Comcast Customer Service reps that I have talked to have indicated that they could only sign me up for current offers for existing customers. Three of the calls were to the Comcast retention department, and those reps didn't appear to have the power to offer anything more than the regular front-line reps. They really didn't seem to care if I left Comcast for a competitor.

You got very lucky!

Different areas may require truck rolls to disconnect service. Some get shut off instantly e.g. apartments should be instant.
