The brushless has less torque from my experience. It allows the tool to last longer but you sacrifice power. not sure what they claim. just what I experienced.
I'm not at all implying that you're a liar because all things are never equal and experience doesn't always match up to what things should be on paper, but this is wikipedia's take on the advantages of brushless:
Brushless motors offer several advantages over brushed DC motors, including more torque per weight, more torque per watt (increased efficiency), increased reliability, reduced noise, longer lifetime (no brush and commutator erosion), elimination of ionizing sparks from the commutator, and overall reduction of electromagnetic interference (EMI).
I don't know enough about electric motors but I guess it's possible that these first-gen brushless have smaller, less powerful motors than the current brushless?
