Walmart Won't Return XBOne w/Receipt

I went to return an Xbox One to Walmart today but the store refused the return because when the cashier scanned what should have been the serial number, he scanned the product number instead. Walmart looked up the serial number in their system and said that it was purchased at Best Buy. I am 100% sure that it was purchased at Walmart but I have no way to prove it because of the cashier's error.
Is there anything I can do beyond calling corporate and hoping for the best?

Right but the receipt is missing the serial number and according to Walmart's "Control" system, it was purchased at Best Buy.
It shouldn't be a problem but the Loss Protection Manager decided to make a problem out of it.
Additionally, someone circled the item on the receipt to indicate that it had been returned when it was not. I fear that it could also be an issue.

I wonder how Walmart would even know what Best Buy has sold. I doubt they have access to that database.

Actually, they do. They share a database. The manager I was working with called it "Control," as in "According to the Control system this serial number was purchased at Best Buy #50 on this date at this time." He even showed me a printout of it.
BB #50 is in Lincoln Nebraska and I am in NY.
I'd be willing to bet that it is the same database that tracks returns across different stores too.

Why not go back and try again, explain what happened last time, and point out the actual number they need to use?

The problem is, the number they have to use is coming up as being sold by Best Buy so Walmart is refusing the return.

No items should have been circled. The only thing I was returning was the Xbox.

did you get this as a gift? Maybe the person who bought it bought one from BB and one from Walmart, gave you the wrong receipt.
Ask the original purchaser if he/she bought more than one system?

I assume you're not the original purchaser since you know, i'd think you'd know what store you bought said system from lol

I agree, you should just try Best Buy...no reason to fight the system/for all this hassle if it has just given you a different route.
