Bet and win money to lose weight through HealthyWager:

https://www.healthywage.com/weigh...own-prize/

Last January's HealthyWage challenge was +41 on Slickdeals: http://slickdeals.net/f/5765420?v=1 This year's promo is called "HealthyWager" where users can choose how much to bet, how much to win and how long to make the terms of the bet for.

BETTING:
Say that I'm 200 lbs:
  • In the 2013 promo, I'd have to wager $150 to lose 20lbs in 6 months.
  • With the 2014 HealthyWager, I can choose to bet $100 to lose 20lbs in 10 months. The payout will probably not be $300, but may work better for me if I can only afford to bet $10/month. Likewise, I can also choose to very aggressive and bet $1,000 to lose 100lbs in 6 months, which will have a significantly higher payout.

PAYOUT: The payout is calculated by an algorithm that takes into account your initial weight, your target weight, your bet, how you're going to lose weight, etc, so it will be different for different people. Send an email to slickdeals@healthywage.com within a month of signing up to get another $20 in their winnings.

RULES:
1) Minimum bet is $100 to lose at least 10% of the weight in at least 6 months (users can choose to pay monthly)
2) Weigh-in can be done electronically - instructions here: https://www.healthywage.com/weigh...w-it-works

On 5/19/14, I was informed by Diana Fleming that there is no current $20 slickdeals promotion for emailing slickdeals@healthywage.com

We [are] currently not offering a Slickdeal reward.

As of 3:04pm Pacific Time on 1/3/2014, HealthyWage has removed the non-disparagement clause from its Team Challenge terms.

Hi All -

Jim from HealthyWage here. I just wanted to let everyone know that we no longer have the "Sour Grapes" clause in our rules.

Hi:

We got rid of our sour grapes clause at the end of the year in response to comments from participants and even lots of slickdeals folks. We agree that it was unnecessary. The link you (or someone) found was no longer active but for some reason still "Google-able". Anyway, we've removed it. The new rules are here: https://www.healthywage.com/chall...ger-rules/

As you can see, we've worked very hard to make the rules simple and to make clear that the only way to lose is to not achieve your weight loss goal.

Hope to see you in one of our challenges some time soon!

Perfect timing. All you can eat pancakes at iHop, weigh in, bet, lose it and pay for the pancakes with the winnings.

So, the payout has shrunk significantly. If I bet $50 per month for 6 months ($300 total) that I will be 10% lighter at the end of the period, they are willing to pay me $333.33. Albeit that is a return of 11.11%, it is still far less than they offered last year.

edit: Looks like the return decreases after a specific bet amount, as well. The best I could work out using their calculator was a $1200 monthly bet for 6 months to lose at least 10% body weight. This would yield $8000 minus $7,200 for the wager or $800 return. Still 11.11% return on investment which is not too bad for 6 months.

Im pretty sure I could rig a bathroom scale to say I lost 100lbs...

will they visually notice that I clearly dont have 100lbs to lose?

Thanks for posting. I have never heard of HealthyWage until today. My friends and I are in a gym pact though.

My understanding is that you will have to go to a gym that HealthyWage trusts to weigh you.

Can you post more details about this? Is SD involved just to help out members with an additional incentive?

Hmmm, is there a website that I could wager on how much weight I will gain in the next six months? That would be a sure winner and a definite slickdeal! Big Grin

Hi Tofu Vic, Happy New Year!

Yeah, I've heard of gympact too, and it's funny because I've contemplated just going to get a smoothie at the gym to check in for gympact! ...never did it...just to clarify...

And yes, after the success of last year's challenge, we reached out to HealthyWage to see if they can add a sweetener for Slickdeals users, which is why they're providing the additional $20 in winnings.

Not that being on GMA ensures legitimacy, but here's a segment where they're featured: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/h...s-21258702

You can bet $200/month or you can bet $200 for the entire 6 month program. If you do lose the weight, they'll pay you more than your initial bet, so you're not "out" the betting amount.

He didn't phrase his question clearly, but he was really asking what happens if he DOESN'T lose weight. He was trying to confirm that if he loses the bet, he's out $1200 in his given scenario.

Didn't this company have some ridiculously strict rules on not being able to post anything negative about them publicly?

On top of that, their business model seems morally sketchy - a quality I generally don't mind, but worthy of mention. Nobody builds a casino because they want to give away money. So this company is betting on people being unhealthy. Essentially, they're hoping you don't exercise so they can be profitable. I mean, I'm all about making profit - it just seems interesting that the morality police show up any time someone mentions reselling something they bought on Slickdeals for a profit. Why do people earning their living on you being fat get a pass? - That's all I'm saying. Somebody call the morality police on this thread.

So what's stopping me from drinking a crap load of water for the weigh-in and then simply peeing later?

i mean like if i bet 200$ a month for 6 months, and don't lose any weight and i lose the challenge, i owe them 1200$?
