The regular offer for this card is 20,000 points, so this is a big improvement. These 50,000 points can be redeemed for travel (flights, hotel, car rentals etc). In addition, this card earns 2%, so if you regularly pay for travel, it might be a good card for you.

Spend 3K in 3 months for the 50K points.

The annual fee of $59 is waved for year one.

One downside of Capital One is that they pull from all 3 credit bureaus, so that should be considered. You may remember this deal from when it was 100,000 points several years ago, but it appears you can get this card again if you cancelled it before.

To find the link, you need to go to this FT thread. Might not be available that long.

Here's a link to the capital one page that describes the card. Don't apply from there though, or you'll only get 20,000 points.

Cap 1 pulls from 3 bureaus ( Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). That translates into 3 hard inquiries ( 1 at each bureau ). Having said that, people who understands the credit knows that it will have the same impact on credit score as other bank pulling a single bureau. from FICO lens, all hard pulls generated from same lender on the same day for same product results into a single inquiry/hard hit. Each bureau counts FICO individually using their data.

You should worry if you have something bad on your report on one of the bureaus because Cap 1 will catch it. With other lenders, you might get lucky if they don't pull that bureau.

Isn't this a card in which you can use what's referred to as "Purchase Eraser" for previous travel. You say buy an airline ticket and you apply your miles after the fact once the charge is posted to the account?

$500, but only toward travel.
Not true, gift cards are available for the same redemption value as travel. I've gotten my last two tv's from amazon and best buy for free with this card.

Yes, just keep in mind you must have enough points for the full cost of the ticket, can't redeem partial amounts.

You can't open up a credit card without a hard pull. Triple pull is the reason to give pause. I think this would be fine as part of an apporama, but the timing isn't ideal for me.

Any ideas on how to spend $3000 ? I usually buy Marathon gift cards from my local gas station but this year they stopped using credit cards as payment.

Auto insurance\home insurance if they are due soon and if your insurance company allows you to pay by CC. Cable\Internet\phone bills. Food purchases at the supermarket. Gas amd Elec bills though most of them charge a fee to pay by credit card and are not worth it as such.
