also be careful, your price that you subscribe is not locked in. Amazon can raise the price anytime, without telling you. I had a item increase from 30 to 50% on the 3rd shipment. luckily i caught it before it was shipped out and cancelled the s&s,
This is news? I thought everyone knew this.
Although I did remember hearing people complain after 'locking in' the price on a shipment that amazon changed the price when it shipped later in the month.... made me double check mine, which were fine.
While the prices on S&S are very tempting, I have tried twice to use this service and both times been very disappointed. Despite my cancellation request, I continued to receive shipments with very inflated prices and it took several phone calls to Amazon to get this corrected. I detailed the second problem and even Amazon could not believe what they did. After working on this with a supervisor all day, Amazon has agreed to refund all my overdraft fees which amount to close to $500 dollars. I am a single parent and a student I absolutely cannot afford to do business with Amazon when this occurs. I will not be using my Prime account anymore. I am checking other mailorder options including Walmart, Dollar General etc. Living rural means I dont have acess to big box stores pricing.
I use S&S and never had any problems along these lines. Of course, Amazon is betting that people will forget or grow comfortable with receiving a product on a regular schedule. While I understand people avoiding Amazon because of the shitty way they treat their employees, I also want to say that I've always got fantastic customer service from them.
I use the Amazon Mom 20% discount and do a massive shipment once every few months. I cancel the subscription immediately after they ship. As I've verified with people from /r/frugal and other sources, the prices are typically similar to Costco on things like toilet paper, and you don't need to pay a subscription fee. Personally, I've found S&S is the best choice for people to stock up on essential household items, especially given that Costco is several miles away from my house.
