You will not be able to purchase the phone if the shipping address is not inside their "Home Coverage Area" which means something different than just where service is available. I had no luck bypassing this by calling them. <---- Wrong, use this workaround:: MetroPCS ships by FedEx 2-day, which prioritizes Zipcode over City/State. Just put in the closest drop-down state and the correct City and Zipcode. It will prompt a correction on checkout but continue with original. Mine showed up in 2 days, no delays.

All info about Huawei Valiant in one place (thanks to individual contributors):

To root:
-- do not let the over-the-air update install before rooting; Cydia Impactor will not work after the update! --
First go to Huawei website and download Hisuite software. It will install all the drivers. http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/
Turn on Settings->Developer Mode->USB Debugging
Turn on Settings->security->Unknown sources
Connect Valiant phone to PC with USB cable and choose MTP mode
Install and run Cydia Impactor on a Windows PC and hit Start; if it can't see the device, run USB->Driver Scan
Disconnect from PC and reboot phone
Install SuperSU from the Google Play store
Install Root Checker by JoeyKrim to ensure that rooting worked;

To Unlock Valiant:
codes are available on ebay from a UK seller for about ~$4.50
You will need to provide IMEI, Model/make (Huawei Valiant) and Locked to Metro PCS
After a day or so you will get 4 codes.
Insert any sim other than metroPCS in phone (e.g., H2O SIM card ($0.01 shipped at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005XB7RH0/ got both codes below) and start phone
I inserted Tmobile sim and used the 3rd code first and it said unlocked successfully and the SIM card worked but when I used LycaMobile sim card I got sim lock issue again. Then I entered the first code < without doing a master reset> and checked using * # * # 2846579 # * # * and it said sim lock deactivated

To check lock status:
1. At phone dial pad enter * # * # 2846579 # * # *
2. select "projectMenu"
3. select" Network Setting"
4. select "Sim card lock state query"

If it said "SIMLOCK_DEACTIVE", means you are unlocked.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MetroPCS Alcatel One Touch Fierce Unlocking Instructions:

1. Receive unlock codes (NCK and SPCK) via auction site
2. Put a non-MetroPCS micro-sim into phone
3. Phone will display:
Enter SIM ME lock
([SP]Remains:3)
4. Enter the SPCK code and then (NCK code did not work for me)
5. Put a different non-MetroPCS micro-sim into phone
6. Phone will display:
Enter SIM ME lock
([N]Remains:3)
7. Enter the NCK code and then

Phone is now unlocked...

Although Metro PCS uses the T-Mobile infrastructure, if you want to use these phones on T-Mobile or other T-Mobile MVNOs, you'll need these unlocked. For your information, there are inexpensive (under $3 USD for each of these phones) unlocking service on the big online auction site.

The One Touch Evolve for $29 would make for an inexpensive Andriod phone, MP3 player, and offline GPS, especially if you can get it unlocked.

So these are available for sim unlocking? I read in the other lumia 521 thread that metro pcs only unlocks after 90 days and interpreted it to mean for all phones

Purchase the phone as a "guest". It will work.

In fact, my 2x LG F6 has shipped out to me via 2 day Fedex. ( ETA Friday )

*** I think OP should add Huawei Valiant into the list? ($29) It is faster than Alcatel Evolve and cheaper ($6) to get unlocked.

You don't need to do the rebate part to get the OP's stated price. OP's stated price excludes the rebates. If you want the rebate to make the phone cheaper, then you'll need to activate with MetroPCS.

What do you search on the auction site? I cannot seem to find metro PCS unlock codes.

Do a search for:

"5020N unlock" for the Evolve
"7024W unlock" for the Fierce (although you might want to ask seller if for metro pcs)
"LG Optimus F6 unlock" (I think the model is MS500, again ask seller)

Look for the international sellers

Thinking of getting the Fierce just to try out on the $30 plan (100 mins, unlimited text/data); if T-Mobile is good in my area, I'll consider switching and getting 4 lines for $100; I'll give the Fierce to my bro and then go get myself the Nexus 5. I'm ready to dump my Sprint SERO; used to be great with the $30 plan but now it just stinks paying $55 (with taxes) / mo. I don't need Sprint unlimited data which is only mostly 3G only in my area.
