That data gives you up to a 30 day view with the various rates and alternatives for the route you want to take without having to go one by one through the reservation system to see pricing. The pricing from one train to the next and one day to the next fluctuates greatly. This will allow you to see the cheapest seats available at that very moment. If you have a little bit of flexibility this could work out really well.

Amtrak has a unique pricing system. They sell the first tickets in the car at the lowest rate and subsequent ones at a higher rate. When they add a car, they do this all over again.

The next time you are looking for a specific trip, spend some time checking this out. If you can find a coupon to use on the cheapest seat available that would be really slick.

I don't believe there are any "easy" to get discounts besides route specific offerings and the typical every day discounts for AAA, military, children, etc.

Good luck. If you find the information you are looking for, please post. I use Amtrak a lot but it can still be so expensive, even getting one of the cheapest seats in the bucket.

I know if you're a student or a minor you get discounts on tickets. Also, you can try AAA! They usually have discounts on all that stuff

If you have an American Express card, when you log in click the tab that says offers for you. They are running an Amtrak discount until Feb 15 for $30 off of $150.

There is also a Veterans Advantage Card discount. Veteransadvantage.com

I pay for the card because the discounts are for things my wife and I already will purchase anyway.

Amtrak: 15% train travel discounts online, by phone and by showing your Veterans Advantage Card at Amtrak train stations nationwide.
Greyhound: 20% bus travel discounts online, by phone and by showing your Veterans Advantage Card at Greyhound bus stations nationwide.
Car Rentals: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty all honor Veterans Advantage Card members with car rental travel discounts worldwide.

Hello OP,

I don't know where you're located but there's a 30% discount they're offering for what it looks like California associated routes. Guess it doesn't hurt to try and see if it would apply to any of your routes.
