Thread Details

Dell has their brand new 28" 4K Ultra HD Monitor available for $598.49 + Tax

Steps to replicate the deal:

1. Go to the Dell EPP Page [dell.com].
2. Search for P2815Q in the upper right hand corner (monitor should come up as $35 off list price of $699).
3. Add to cart.
4. Apply coupon code $3SXSG419DDB2P (total should come to $598.49).

If you are a Dell Advantage member (free sign up), you'll also get a promotional gift card for 5% of the total purchase ($30).

Shipping is free.

Please note: 30 Hz refresh rate might not make this ideal for gamers.

Props to jj14 for tracking down this deal here. I just thought this was slick enough to get its own post.

30Hz and TN is a deal breaker. Good discount, definitely a deal, just a bad product.

I thought I read somewhere that the 30Hz refresh rate may be improved with a firmware update.

So it isn't that TN panels are trash compared to newer display technologies - it has mostly been trash its entire existence on a performance level. There are TN panels though that are manufactured with much higher standards - those aren't too bad.

I think the most ironic thing about this specific 'deal' monitor is that it attempted to enter a monitor bracket (27"+, more than 1080p) that was reserved for professional monitors. This monitor makes very little sense for those who are looking in this range.
I'm hoping that this TN panel is one of the better ones.
Unfortunately, there aren't any reviews of this panel. I saw the firstlook [tomshardware.com], and it doesn't look terrible. The 32" one (IPS) of course looks noticeably better/brighter/vivid - but the cost is significantly higher.

Worst case, if it is not good enough, I'll return and get the 24" instead.

Don't hold your breath. It is not going to happen - it will need a change to the hardware. If the sales numbers are too low or if it has a lot of returns because of this reason, they may offer a new revision with better hardware. But existing ones can't be updated.

lol yeah I'm sure dell will bump it up to 120hz soon. Just think about this : if this display could do 60hz or more dell would be asking much more for it because frequency is a major sellout . At 60hz this would be a great gaming display so it will cater at the very least to the gaming community. So no it's not going to happen for this monitor and if this panel can indeed do more than 30hz it will most likely be released at a different price point in a different monitor in the future.

I left SD for six months and come back to bs like this. 28" TN panels running at 30Hz for $600 without any actual reviews, multiple deals for items costing $8 sold at a discount for $5, and random shill deals. What happened to this place?
I get the impression this place is a lot more popular than it used to be so while there are still bargain hunters here, there are run of the mill tech enthusiasts as well. As a result, the really slick deals, where you can get a quality product marked down to a fraction of its retail cost, sell out almost instantly, and what's left is any plain sale on even early adopter tech is also considered slick.

you can blame mods for shill deals like normal sales at sears, etc.

I'm not convinced that this panel is locked in at 30Hz:

Click the little footnote link (the number 6 near where it states the optimum resolution) on the tech specs page and it suggests that the monitor really runs at 60Hz.

Yeah, and what's up with that stupid Chase bank ad taking up valuable space at the number one slot every day?

1080p at 60hz. 4k at 30hz. Im not sure what you mean by "locked" but it runs at 60hz only when scaled down ...which i guess defeats the purpose for some to spend a premium on this panel if they want 60hz.

Exactly. Mostly just the TN part for the general public but 30hz kills all these 2160p monitors for me. Honestly, I am probably gonna grab the 50" Vizio P series later this year and wall mount it barely an inch above my dual 27" 2560 x 1440 displays. Perfect set up for me personally except I still want a 15" to 20" WQHD or better touchscreen monitor with an active digitizer for my digital art.

yes, we all know dell dropped the ball on these 4k 30hz monitors, and it's already showing - after the $699 MSRP it already dropped to $599 on sale.

now lemme ask you guys this, at what price point would it be justified to get one of these, and accept the limitations? Stick Out Tongue

This seems way too cheap for a 4k monitor, no?

-TN panel with bad viewing angles
-30Hz

depends on usage

- ie, for gaming, its pretty much unusable IMHO due to 30Hz, you can play 108p at 60Hz but then why pay the premium?
- for photo/web work, TN panel will give you inferior IQ
- for general web browsing or even coding, this would be great with all the real estate

i would probably pay around $200 for this, keep it at 4k/30Hz for normal use and switch to 1080p/60Hz when gaming.. lack of viewing angles would still suck though

I strongly suggest anybody willing to drop $600+ for a monitor to consider getting the u3014 refurb from Dell outlet ...surprisingly is still in stock @655 AC + tax. It trumps this one in everything except of course 4k...which is most likely not an issue for many of us...i own one (just one as i cannot afford multiples lol) and its a very nice monitor to say the least.

I've been checking for the last few days, and haven't seen it in stock, unfortunately.
