Hi all,
I was on the lookout for a decent projector, and just placed an order for BenQ W1070 3D projector from frys.com for 779$ shipped.
Their website seems to be behaving oddly, and you may have to call them at 1-408-350-1484 to place the order via phone. Also, walmart.com was willing to do a price match, but they were charging me tax extra, so I went with frys.com.

http://www.frys.com/product/75338...IN_RSLT_PG

Amazon has this item listed for 875$ (http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-W1070-...benq+w1070).

The lowest it went was for $749 a month or so ago from amazon.

Cheers !

I'm looking for an outdoor setup and have been watching the Acer H6510BD prices. I need a long throw, and it seems to have better specs, are there any advantages to this BenQ?

I'm a projector newbie. Just started reading up on it. I'm concerned about this not having lens shift--if I can't mount this to my ceiling perfectly in the middle, will the image be distorted if its 6-8" off?
There was no lens shift when I bought my first projector.
Lens shift does help a big deal especially if you want to set it up to one side or your room does not allow a straight placement (or you are lazy to adjust).
The simple way to install such a projector is mount it first such that the lens is at horizontal center of your room. Then project the image on the wall adjust for geometry. Once this is done, mount your screen (as now you know where the image falls).
Hope this helps.

Edit : Also remember that this is a DLP projector. Some people of sensitive to Rainbow effect. (There is no way to pretest it w/o the DLP projector)

Yes. But it is very limited I guess (or only for vertical or something. Need to check)

TD for me. If the product is not shipped from AK, OR, MT, DE, or NH then DO NOT PUT NO TAX. Let the people figure it out themselves based on their state. Pet peeve of mine.
Grab a map, figure out where you live....own the fact
The OP will never be able to change state statute
Suspending tax, So, if you live in tax charging states
In the very few stores that make FP ( NE, frys, BB etc)
Know you will pay tax....Pet peeve fixed.

I'm not well versed with projectors, but would there be a big difference between this benq and this acer or viewsonic? The models I'm comparing it to are H6510BD and PJD7820HD

The acer is 699 w/ no tax for me vs. 779+tax, which is a pretty big difference, and the viewsonic seems to come with 2 free 3d glasses and 80" screen (both after rebate) for only 699 and no tax.

Can anyone tell me how this can be close to Optoma HD131xe when xe has 18000:1 contrast ratio vs 10000:1 on w1070 and Xe also is 2500 lumens vs 2000 on w1070?
I would like to know this as well

Do not know much about projectors but always wanted to get one. What makes a $2000 one better than an $780 one like this? If not much I'll definitely pull the trigger and buy. Just seeing if its worth spending an extra grand on something. Longer bulb life? Brighter
? thanks

If you are new to projectors and need a place to start then this is an excellent choice. I have owned it since it's release and would hands down purchase again at this price.

I use the W1070 with my HTPC and a 92" old dalite hccv. Games are extremely responsive and movies are near perfect. Only complaint would be the lack of absolute blackest of blacks. Also, this projector color space does not exceed srgb. But still has excellent color reproduction.

The H6510BD interests me as well, hope someone with knowledge of these models chimes in

I really wanted the W1080st, but when I saw the viewsonic and its stats and also the price I could not pass up trying it. I got it for $600 with 2 free 3-D glasses and a option for a free screen and mount if just paid for shipping. For me the price difference at the time was about $300. So I decided ill try it out if it looks better then my current projector by a lot, and I am impressed, ill keep it. I had it for a full two weeks and made my choice its a keeper. I saved a ton of cash and I got a excellent image. I would have returned it if I wasn't impressed, paid the restock if there was one, but I was. My only other concern besides image was rainbow effect, but I have not noticed a rainbow a single time, neither has anyone else who has been watching tv on it. I view it from multiple viewpoints sometimes and even then saw nothing.

Could you be more specific on what info? It has a 1k more lumens then the w1070 which is not a short throw projector. It has a 3 year warranty compared to the 1 year the benq has. They both have 6x color wheels which are just slightly different, with equal performance, the w1070 has a better uniform spread, but everything else was almost identical, colors out of the box slightly better on the w1070, but you can come almost identical if you adjust the viewsonic. Also if I remember right dont quote me on this one, I am pretty sure 3-D at full HD cant be done at 120hz on all modes on the benq while it can be done on the viewsonic, and I am pretty sure the response time is quicker on the view sonic which makes it perfect for gaming. Also one is short throw the other is not. So let me know what your unclear on.
You can't base anything on manufacturer specs. And most reviews don't place it anywhere near the w1070, except on paper, which means nothing.
