Passmark score on the CPU is 1448, which isn't to shabby for a low end laptop.

Good enough for browsing the internet and such.

agreed...it will be more than adequate for 95% of users needs (movies/netflix, itunes, facebook, email/bill pay, etc), and with external hard drives as massive (1TB+) and inexpensive as they've become, backing up to physical media is nearly extinct...even programs and drivers are almost entirely available for download, so overall I'd say a physical drive is a nice perk, but completely unnecessary for most.

* Macbook Pros don't have em', and those are fantastic : )

macbook pros these days don't have them??? or do you mean Macbook Air?

I took my MBP (2011) and removed the drive and put in an optical bay for an SSD instead.

hd graphics ivy bridge (despite being anemic in modern terms) completely outclasses the gma950 or the nvidia option on the d620 chipset which can't even play 1080p content fluently, per core performance in the ivy bridge celeron is higher even at lower clocks (given it's much higher IPC from better branch prediction, greater L1/L2/L3 cache and memory bandwidth, more modern instruction sets, etc) and it does so at at a much lower TDP, the FSB clock and memory speed is more than double the d620 (1600mhz DDR3 vs 667mhz ddr2), the hard drive is at least SATA II likely SATA III which wil allow benefits from an SSD upgrade I'm sure couldn't be realized on the d620's SATA I connection, this had an led vs the d620's ccfl display...what exactly is comparable?

the 2013 MBP update removed the optical drive...it's lighter and thinner instead : )
