I believe you can, though honestly I have no experience doing so. All I know is that you should make sure Windows 7 drivers are available for your model. This forum was for the L55 and could probably help you out.

keep windows 8 it is way better than windows 7 in terms of performance.

if you want the start menu back download classic shell(free), startisback, or start8.
you can get the start menu just like windows 7 but without having to use the metro ui.

I hate windows 8 just as much as anyone else and can honestly say I like the performance much better than 7.

It boots ridiculously quick (I'm on a SSD) and everything seems to launch much quicker. The main reason I updated to Windows 8 was mainly so I could familiarize myself with it. Not that I agree with it, but I don't know if Microsoft is going to steer away from this "star screen"/metro crap, so might as well get used to/familiarize yourself with it.

over $500 with shipping and tax. no deal, especially since it doesn't have buttons for touchpad and only 3346 cpu mark

I picked one up from their ebay store its 459 w/free shipping and eBay bucks back. Still had to pay tax though.

Been nice and fast for me than I put a Toshiba Pro Q ssd in it and it flys, I like the build with nearly all aluminum, speakers and screen are pretty decent too.

I've had mine a few weeks and happy with it.

Not misinformed in the least! Qualify your claim. Windows 8 or 8.1 is much more efficient and works with drivers better than 7. 7 is no slouch ; but 8 is better. and I use classic shell, but there are other programs that do the same thing as classic shell.
