Not misinformed in the least! Qualify your claim. Windows 8 or 8.1 is much more efficient and works with drivers better than 7. 7 is no slouch ; but 8 is better. and I use classic shell, but there are other programs that do the same thing as classic shell.
thanks for your opinion. but for HTPC use Windows 7 is better for compatibility for media extenders.

excuse my English.

No offense, but who the hell is buying a $450 aluminum Core i5 laptop with 6 GB of RAM as a media extender/HTPC?

Any way to upgrade this to win7?
Yes you can downgrade this to Win7, shouldn't have any driver issues from a quick glance.

keep windows 8 it is way better than windows 7 in terms of performance.

if you want the start menu back download classic shell(free), startisback, or start8.
you can get the start menu just like windows 7 but without having to use the metro ui.
Thanks for those suggestions. The last time i searched for a start menu was 1.5 years ago when windows was just put out. I dont have win 8 on any of my systems, but my girlfriend has it on 2 systems, so i might install it.
Thanks

Does anyone know if it's possible to use an SSD and the original hard drive? I would like to be able to remove the dvd drive/bay and install another hard drive. I would not want to give up the extra storage of the slower hard drive.

Thanks in advance.

I bought this unit from Toshiba's ebay store, then returned it a week later. The screen, although it looked sharp @ 1080p, the viewing angle was terrible. After installing a SSD drive, and doing a clean Windows 7 install, the system would blue screen when resuming from sleep.

I recently got the 17" with i7 Haswell ($550) -- Plugged in 16GB of RAM + SSD and its a beast! -- Toshiba seemed to have greatly improved laptop quality. It is very quiet even while doing some Visual Studio work on it.

I also like to use my laptop at very sharp angles. Thanks for the warning!

Windows 8 won't run your old Microsoft Office 2003. Windows 7 will.

Lithium Ion (43Wh, 4-Cell)—*Not user replaceable
Ouch! That's a deal-killer.
