Discount Tire Direct Price Match Saved $200 on New Tires YMMV

I've been trying to find a good deal on some tires for the old Man Van, my Excursion with a 1/4 million miles. Of course didn't want to spend too much money since the old girl is nearing the end of her life. After tons of price matching, shopping, research, and negotiation my overall cheapness prevailed. $640 for a set Cooper Discovery ATP Load Range E tires is an awesome deal out the door.

I was just shopping for tires at Discount Tire Direct's eBay store [ebay.com] and went to price compare from the local Discount Tire [discounttire.com] store. The local discount tire said the price match so I called the nearest store and he said they would price match the online Discount Tire Direct eBay stores price. When I tried to find a cheaper price online I found Discount Tire Direct [discounttiredirect.com] website which Discount Tire will also price match.

Discount Tire Local Out the Door Price: $839.67
Price Matched to Discount Tire Direct Out the Door Price: $640

Both prices include mounting, balance, tire disposal fees, taxes, valve stems, and tires. The online price for tires from Discount Tire Direct was $571 and the local shop charged an additional $69 to mount, balance, disposal, stems, etc.

Hope this helps out some other people. I attached my shopping carts to show the price difference. I'm sure you can get deals on lots of other tires. This also saves everyone from ordering tires online, having them shipped to your house, and having to load them in your car to get them mounted at the local tire shop.

Discount Tire Direct charges sales tax for items shipped to: AZ*(9.3%), OH*(7.0%), TX*(8.25%)

Sorry if this is sloppy, it's one of my first posts. I tried so take it easy on me.

The Kev Master was given two tire size options, 16" for the 3.5 S and SL while a 17" for the 3.5SE.

The 16", I'm thinking I'll go with Sam's club, who has some cheap tires at $109 each... My issue is that I don't know if there's a huge difference between tires, and what to look for... *sigh*

I'll have to call sam's club and find out if it's more for installation or anything else...

The Kev Master recommends reading the reviews on Tire Rack and not buying generic branded tires but instead sticking to the mainstream brands like Michelin, Bridgestone, Dunlop and Goodyear.

Yes please don't buy any off brands. You can add certain Falkens, Nittos, BF Goodrich and Continentals to that list. The rest aren't of any quality and will wear out fast.

Absolutely. Don't go cheap on tires. When you swerve to avoid that raccoon at 70 mph and end up skidding into the nearest ditch, make sure you get out (if you can) and say, "Wow, I'm glad I saved a few bucks on tires"...the only thing connecting your vehicle to the road.

Nobody expects they'll have to do an evasive maneuver, but if you do, it would be nice to have tires that allow you to maintain control.

Ive been looking for some tires at a good price for a G35 on 18s if anyone sees anything that they think stands out here

I have a Lexus gs430 (they all have really bad camber wear). I have tried Goodyear, Michelin, continental, and Pirelli. They were all trash in 20k to 30k. I finally decided to just get some cheapo's. Primewell pz900 from hibdon tires plus. Super cheap good handling and i have put 30k on them with no camber wear. Dont ask me cuz i dont know, all i know is when these wear out i will get another set.

http://www.tiresplus.com/popup.js...ell_021414

Example: 4 tires total:
A matched set 225&245\45\18 for right at 300 plus tax. That includes mount\lifetime balance\tpms kits. Cant really beat it. They perform as well as perelli nero runflats and they dont prematurely die from high camber sports cqrs. Lexus, bmw, 350z, 370z, Audi, ect

How does the price matching work? I've never price matched anywhere! DTD only matches with their online prices? Or prices from anywhere that sells tires?
