i dont hear alot of people flipping electronics on amazon. i think they must charge more fee than ebay.
I've actually found Amazon to be a little more affordable than eBay (ebay/paypal ends up with nearly 14% these days, Amazon takes only 9% in my cases, no Paypal fees)

Waiting for the non refurbished 230s as the only difference is this comes with a mix amp.
Better off with a good sound card or in the least a creative extreme music with pax drivers for $20.
Good for laptops though, tu for the low price.

It comes with a USB adapter, so you can just plug that into a USB port. Alternatively, you can remove the adapter and just plug the 3.5mm jacks into your inputs.
I know its silly, but if I use the USB dongle, my speakers wont work right?

When you plug it in, it should disable your regular speakers. Same as if you plugged in the 3.5mm jacks.

This is what the adapter looks like: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/imag...L1500_.jpg

It looks like the mic and headphone have separate plugs, so I guess this wouldn't work as a headset for PS4?

Just to confirm, since it's USB, you don't need a sound card at all right? Can anyone who has these comment on how realistic the surround sound is in gaming?

Also since these headphones don't actually have special hardware for surround sound, they are just normal headphones, the surround sound is accomplished through software (Dolby Headphones), would it be possible to get the same effect with any pair of headphones if you have that Dolby Headphones driver loaded? Anyone have any experience with that? I have a high end pair of Sennheiser so I feel kind of weird buying a pair of headphones like these Logitechs just for the software surround sound emulation.

Is this headset worth an upgrade over the plantronics gamecom 777?

I'm pretty sure you still need a sound card, the one integrated into the motherboard will work fine.

Also, the surround sound software will work with any headphones.

If you weren't planning on getting the mix amp with the Astro A40s, these have better default sound. The Astro headsets without mix amp are only capable of stereo sound.
