Whenever someone mentions burners on here, all I can think about is The Wire.

The $9.99 phone mentioned earlier looks like a good choice. I'm also looking at the deal discussed at http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/113746/radioshack---virgin-mobile-kyocera-event-no-contract-phone-red-or-black - the $14 price is gone, but at the current $20 price point, it still looks like a cheap mp3 player.

I picked up one when it was at $14...my curiosity got the best of me. I had to see what $14 can get you these days. I have to say I've been very impressed thus far...

- Currently using Rocket Player app...the phone accepted my 32GB microsd with no issues, and music is crisp and clear with quality earbuds. Also, with eco mode enabled and apps closed, it's been getting excellent runtimes as an MP3 player

- Currenty using NavFree USA...unlimited free offline maps and voice guidance downloads. Have been using it few days...so far the app and phone work great. Basically turns the event into a $14 (or now $20) standalone touchscreen GPS...hard to beat in it's own right.

- Currently using Talk Free by Magic Jack...I've been making (and receiving) free phone calls over wifi for over a week. Free phone service anywhere I have wifi for $14 (now $20)...again, very hard to beat

...voice search and browser work fine, most apps work fine aside from 3d intensive games, and the limited storage and RAM are easily worked around with a microsd card and careful app management, respectively.

Perhaps I'm easy to please, but I think the Event is a prime choice for this deal...they regularly sell for $30+ on ebay, so if you don't want it, sell it and pocket $10 and 6 months of Netflix. If anyone want any more info, PM me and I'll pass along the info if I have it.

* Haven't attempted to root or unlock it yet, as it seems to be working fine as is for my needs as is, and it is a CDMA only phone and I'm on a GSM carrier.

Oh dear. Based on the go-between redemption website, it looks like they're going to be handing out Netflix GCs, not normal Netflix promo codes.

Good thing there aren't many (any?) SDers in my area based on the apparent lack of Staplers. This is going to get ugly.

FREE Calls with magicJack question.
Does magicJack give you a phone number for free?
I'm currently using Tango Messenger with GV number.
