Definitely some good deals to be had. Now thru 2/28/14 http://hertzcarsales.com is offering $1000 off any of their used cars for sale. Apply promotion code r2b021 and get another $300 off for a total savings of $1300.

As an example, a Nissan Rogue with 15K miles is listed at $19,786 Kelly Blue Book price. Hertz is selling it for $18,429. Using the discount and promo code the No haggle price drops to $17,129. That is a savings of $2,657 off KBB price.

I personally haven't bought one of these cars but know several people that have and were very satisfied. Searching the posts on SD's this is one of the better discounts they have offered. Good luck!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I guess ... think how you drive a rental car and then multiply it by 1000 people. Smilie

People abuse the CRAP out of them and drive them to destroy them. And they are not kept up well

Not everyone abuses them. I rent a car almost weekly for work and I have never abused them. Additionally, Hertz offers you a 3 day rent to buy option so you can check the car out prior to buying. Each car comes with a 60 day / 2000 mile warranty plus there are some with even longer warranties.

Unless you have personal experience with buying a rental car that turned out to be a lemon don't make assumptions. A lot of people have been very happy with buying rental cars and saving $1000s

Care to elaborate? Anything I've read says most rental companies have strict maintenance policies.

I bought a 2012 Jetta for 13k from Hertz with less than 20,000 miles. Includes VW 3 year 100,000 mile warranty from date I bought it. Saved thousands off this car.

I rent cars regularly for work, and I never abuse them. A coworker is related to someone who works in corporate for a rental car company, and they actually maintain their cars pretty well (probably much better than most individuals).

Instead of paying for warranty which doesn't cover your time, why not buy a well cared for used car in the first place?

I've done this twice, got great deals then used the cars for 6 years with no problems both times.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

There are good cars and bad cars when buying an ex-rental, just like there are good and bad when you buy from a used car lot or even places like carmax.
I'd never buy a used car from ANYWHERE without getting it checked out by a mechanic first.

Go with the 3 day option with Hertz, take the car to the dealership, pay $100-$150 to have them do a pre-purchase inspection. They'll put the car up on the lift and tell you exactly what's wrong with the car.

If it checks out clean, you spent $150 for peace of mind.
If it comes back that it needs new brakes, or new tires, or whatever you might be able to bargain with Hertz for a lower price (or have them throw on a set of new tires before you buy it)
If it's a lemon, walk away.

Q: What kind of car goes 100 miles per hour in reverse?

A: Every single rental car ever

These are some OK deals. High mileage but still competitive pricing. LOL you guys who think rental cars are rented and ragged out are wrong. They are also maintained better than your car cause they are high mileage. Most of these miles are highway anyway. If you think you can rent a car from Hertz and take a dump in the back seat, blow the motor, and return it smoking without repercussion, you watch too much Jackass.

I would trust Hertz over sleezy used car dealer any day.

They charge $200 just for smoking in the car haha.
