Thread Details

I signed up for audible.com membership on January 9th. But I was unable to use the service due to time limitations.
So I decided to cancel my plan ($15/mo)
I went to my audible profile and clicked on Cancel service link.
On the next page I got an offer to keep my membership for half off for next 3 month
I declined again and on the next page I got $9.95 / year offer. Plus I was able to keep my existing points and keep collecting free point (free book) every month.

I think this is very good deal. So you can try and possibly you can drop your membership fee by 90%

Go to Account Settings [audible.com] and proceed to cancellation.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

So, how many months had you paid for when you decided to cancel?

usually the 9.95 a month you don't get credits each month just access to membership price books and a few other things.

I just cancelled (thanks OP for reminding me!) but didn't get the offer.

It may be dependent on the reason for cancelling or simply random. So a YMMV.

The last time I tried to get one of these offers I got screwed. They're "Confirm" buttons are a little unclear right at the end and instead of just looking at the offers I accidentally went all the way through with it. Instead of getting my $1/month promo for three months...I just got one...it sucked.

I literally signed up for audible.com yesterday and I'm on the 30-day trial. I tried this out and did get the offer for $9.95/yr after I clicked on "continue cancelling".

However, it doesn't sound like I'll get monthly credits, just that I have access to audible.com's deals and promos and also keep any points I might have had (which I don't since I just started using audible).

After clicking "I want this!" it changed my account type to: "AudibleListener Light" which is described as below:

AudibleListener Light Plan. The AudibleListener Light Plan is available only on an annual basis and only to Gold and Platinum Members who want to downgrade their plan type. AudibleListener Light Plan members do not receive membership credits but a Gold or Platinum Member converting to the AudibleListener Light Plan may have AudibleListener Rollover Credits that they can rollover when they downgrade. Audible will charge members who downgrade to the AudibleListener Light Plan the yearly plan fee each year on the yearly renewal date.

I agree... doesn't look like this is "gold" membership and therefore you don't get 1 credit per month. Without that I don't think I'd use this service at all (not a huge audio book fan to begin with).

What is the point of this 9.95 plan if you don't get the credits? You pay just so you can use your credits in the future?

Part of the point is that you can keep the credits you have accumulated. However, you can simply put your account on 'hiatus' for 3 months and still accomplish that.

I *think* you used to still have access to the Audible member pricing and, most importantly, the regular sales.
However, it seems that the Listener Light plan no longer gets you access to the sales.

If someone else has Listener Light and can verify this, I'd really like to know.

It sounds like you still get the deals. They sometimes have really good sale prices only available to members (like a few bucks for something that's normally much more). I don't think that would be a tempting offer to me, but to some people it might.

I just signed up for the deal where you get 3 months for .95 cents a month (and 1 credit to buy one book each month), after which I'll cancel. Make sure to see if your local library offers downloadable audiobooks -- I check my library's website before buying anything, as they have a decent selection.

this yearly plan does not have 30% off, if you dont have unused credits, this plan absolutely have no advantage.

I tried to cancel and was given the same offer; $9.99/year for audible light. I took it, just to check it out. It sounds like I could keep the credits I had (which I had none, I used them when I thought I was canceling) but it didn't say anything about NEW monthly credits, so I'm assuming I won't get any.

I can say however, that I am still eligible for the $4.95 book sale they are having right now. I've added several books to my cart just to test it and they are coming up with the sale price.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not it is worth it; but I will keep it this year and test the benefits.
