Thinking of buying - Spybot +AV Professional and Home Editions

descentman 339 124 March 1, 2014 at 12:10 PM
I've been using Spybot for years on my PCs and on my friends PCs to clean them up, and right now I was looking and the Home Edition for 1 year is $13. Just wondering if anyone on here bought it, used it. Thoughts, opinions? Is it worth the upgrade? Have you noticed your PC running smoother/faster with the more advanced and up to date scans?

I do feel like giving back to the Spybot Team for the years of free service I got from them, but I still like to do my research to see what others think of the product.

Have not used it years, not that it doesn't work. If I need it, I'll use the freeware. I use Malwarebytes Pro, which I think is better. Also hate the TeaTimer it has running in the background all the time.
Just my 2 cents.

Is Malwarebytes legit? The name of it alone makes me suspicious...

Yes, A lot of people on this forum use it. The Pro ( lifetime liscense ) version you can find for #12-$15 when it comes up. They are about to go to a yearly subscription, but all existing customers are grandfathered in. There is a free version, just doesn't have real time protection, but very useful when scanning for malware.
No one program does it all. Malwarebytes plays nice with AV software.

In case you want the Pro version for $15

If you mean Microsoft Security Essentials ( free ), plays well with Malwarebytes Pro....don't know how it does with Spybot.
I am sure you'll get other opinions.

I wouldn't be without MalwareBytes, and would highly recommend you pick up a few copies now while you can still take advantage of the lifetime subscription.

For free Antivirus software, I'd suggest either Avast or Avira. If you want to go with a paid version I'd suggest Eset Nod32, which is what I use. Throw in SpywareBlaster (free), and you've got a pretty solid defense going for you. I also use Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware as on-demand-only scanners for second, and third, opinions. Smilie

If I upgrade my PC or buy a new one, will I have to buy a new Malwarebytes license? or can I reinstall with ease and apply the same license? How do they prevent 1 license from being installed on multiple machines?

Nvm, just googled my answer.

I'm very happy using MalwareBytes (active protection) and Security Essentials. I also use ad block plus and SpywareBlaster.
