Thread Details

In this weeks ad. Pretty standard budget laptop. This is new in store at Target. No link on their site. The processor has a much higher benchmark than the N2815 in the recent OD and Micro Center laptop deals. Yes you will pay a little more.

Glad to see Target may be again getting Intel equipped budget laptops as opposed to the AMDs they had been carrying.

$269.99 (Reg. $299.99) $256.50 w/ REDcard

At $200, this would a slick deal.

IDK. This one which like I said has a weaker processor went popular. And B&M Micro Centers aren't as convenient. For potentially $25 more this one seems better or certainly on par.

still a better deal than a lot of the stuff I'm seeing on craigslist. Modern celerons are light years ahead of old core 2 duos and 'pentiums' of yesteryear. This will not be the fastest, but will still beat the pants off of almost all used laptops you'll find running windows xp.

Still a lot of people trashing celeron because it's celeron. It's not 2005 anymore.. celerons are better than they once were. Not a terrible deal, not black friday worthy either.

People are giving 5 thumbs up to this slow thing that only has a dual core... do a little more research before posting please. Smilie

One negative of this laptop is they managed to cram a keypad on the right side of the laptop, which to me seems unnecessary and might make the keys themselves small to type with. For this reason I would not buy this laptop.

Seems like this HP Pavillion 15-NO28US for ~$60 more would be well worth it. I am not confident enough to start another thread, and I see that some were paying $50 less last October, but I desperately need one now. Please opine. TIA

Well it isn't Black Friday Wink.

Agree, can't see why that Asus went popular. Yes this one is ~$25 more but it is better in terms of processor.

Regarding the keyboard I assume you mean the number keypad on the right? I have a Gateway and an Acer with the chiclet style and number keypad and have no complaints.

Celerons aren't bad generally speaking, but this is a 7.5W TDP celeron...relatively speaking it has incredible per watt performance, yet in absolute terms it's performance is weak in this form factor, at this price point...it is woefully underpowered and outclassed compared to similarly priced offerings. If you can wait, do so...you'll find an i3 sometime in the coming weeks/month for not much more that is light years ahead. If you have to have something now, you'd still be much better served spending $30-$40 more on several different models...for example just a quick 45 second search yielded an HP at best buy for $309.99...it's an AMD A6, which doesn't compare well to what it was intended to compete with, but will outperform the 7.5W Baytrail celeron in every category, especially in integrated graphics. Granted it's a 25W TDP (3x that of the Baytrail), but unless battery life is a huge concern, in which case you'd be better served with something much smaller or much more expensive, the TDP differences are irrelevant.

Celeron N2920

A6 5200

* Not trolling the deal, just trying to make sure every slickdealer gets their money's worth!

What would be the battery life of this laptop with a 7W tdp compared to whta you find in an AMD or an Intel i3?

I know the screen luminosity is a big factor, but all things being equal, do you see this lappy getting 10% more run time on battery? 20%?

Frys has the much more powerful Celeron 1007U 17Watt laptops for $270 all month long. But recently there are more sales on weaker N2815 7Watt laptop.

Celeron 1007U (aka i3 w/o HT)- 1,600 score
Celeron N2815(aka Quad Atom)- 1,000 score

A score close to 2,000 is fast for most task.
A score close to 1,000 is bare minimum with more lag in the future.

Not sure why you are referencing the N2815 when this laptop has the N2920. Maybe you should post on that thread.

But either way, your number for the 1007u isn't right. it is definitely not "much more powerful".

1007u - 1441 [passmark.com]
N2920 - 1638 [cpubenchmark.net]

One doesn't blow the other away but there are differences.1007u vs. N2920 [cpuboss.com]

Obviously they both beat the N2815 [cpubenchmark.net].

My bad, I thought the n2920 is the same performance class as the n2910 and n2815. I'll have to look at the n2920 more closely since the passmark score seem a bit fishy.

Intel Celeron 1007U @ 1.50GHz - 1441 [cpubenchmark.net] with 110 samples (Larger sample, better accuracy)
Intel Celeron N2910 @ 1.60GHz - 1065 [cpubenchmark.net]with 3 samples
Intel Celeron N2920 @ 1.86GHz - 1638 [cpubenchmark.net] with 2 samples and 60% faster than the N2910 @ 1.6Ghz

That is a huge jump in performance. If true, that is very fast per watt and much better than 1007U per watt.
