Dell Venue Pro 8 pop ups

house kitten 6,899 March 3, 2014 at 06:27 AM
I loved this tablet at first but it seems like even though windows defender is working I am still getting tons of pop ups, mostly from savings bull(?). Is there a way to prevent these?

Not sure if it matters but I have the 64GB

Try installing the Adblock Plus add-on. You may have to do it in desktop mode. Make sure you haven't picked up any malware by scanning with Malwarebytes. There is nothing specific about the Venue 8 Pro its just a Windows 8 machine.

Ya thanks. Did as you instructed and installed adblock and malwarebytes which found 176 issues, which I deleted. The tablet then restarted. Unfortunately now I can not get into my tablet. I cannot boot into the OS and Bitlocker wants my recovery key (which I have by going to http://windows.microsoft.com/recoverykeyfaq and I was given my 7 digit code which includes 6 numbers and 1 letter. Unfortunately I can only get a number keyboard visible so I cannot type the letter. what happens now? I have tried continuing on and not adding a blitlocker code but am unable.

Solutions (hopefully other than hard reset)?

Do you have access to a USB keyboard that you can connect with an OTG cable or Micro to USB adapter of some kind? I have not seen this issue before and don't know why your on screen keyboard does that.
Sorry if this has created a problem for you, but with that much malware found, you were headed for problems like you were getting.

Yes have keyboard but have yet to purchase an OTG cable. Can you suggest one? Thanks for your suggestion but I just restored to factory. Not a big deal, I was just hoping to avoid that.

I can't believe MS is having over our computing lives......

I bought this one and it works fine...but any cable will do.

Also, if you do not have a need for bitlocker, I would turn it off and watch your surfing habits.
