Difference between Roomba 880 and Roomba 870
The 880 comes with a remote control that has a clean button, dock button and lets you direct the Roomba. Must be in direct line of sight with Roomba for remote to work. Controls are finnicky too (I have the 880); therefore, I don't think remote is worth it.
The 880 has RF ability, which allows for remote control communication as well as "lighthouse" functionality on the virtual walls. "Lighthouse" allows roomba to clean room-to-room, spending as much as 25 minutes per room, before going onto the next room. One representative told me that this actually slows down Roomba's overall cleaning performance because without lighthouse Roomba considers whole house as one big room even though to you it appears to be working less efficiently by going over the same spots 2-3 times. Another representative told me that the lighthouse functionality is best for rooms that have a circular linear pattern. She said "if your home is set up in a circular linear pattern the 880 would work well. That means that each room follows into the next and has 2 doorways. If the entrance and the exit are the same door way the 870 would be better."
Difference between Roomba 880/870 and Roomba 780
880/870 has 5x more powerful suction than 780
880/870 has tangle-free Aeroforce Extractors
880/870 holds 60% more dirt in dust bin
880/870 has a single HEPA filter that needs to be changed every 3-4 months whereas 780 has two filters that need to be changed every 2-3 months (told over the phone)

Why this is a good deal
- Likely, 10% coupon applying to 870 is unintentional (just launched today). New 800 series introduced in November 2013 with Roomba 880, and coupon still does not apply to 880. 880 Has been sold out until mid-February, going on eBay for $900+.
- Roomba 880 ~$733 after tax and not available anywhere for discount. Since 800-series robots are exclusive to iRobot store, one cannot purchase through third-party resellers like Bed Bath and Beyond, which is a popular place to buy Roomba since you can always find a 20% coupon that applies to your Roomba purchase.
- Roomba 870 is everything 880 has besides remote and RF functionality for over $100 cheaper with coupon. In my case 870 saved me $160 versus 880.
- If you do buy from iRobot.com, you have a 30-day return window from when the product is shipped, so you can continue to look for better deal. Though, to get free return shipping, you must have some sort of grievance for why you are returning (cannot just be that you changed your mind).
Yes, there are competitors like Neato. One can buy a vacuum at target for $30 or less. Please discuss merit of deal on this model, instead of flaming people interested in Roomba. Thanks
