Difference between Roomba 880 and Roomba 870
The 880 comes with a remote control that has a clean button, dock button and lets you direct the Roomba. Must be in direct line of sight with Roomba for remote to work. Controls are finnicky too (I have the 880); therefore, I don't think remote is worth it.

The 880 has RF ability, which allows for remote control communication as well as "lighthouse" functionality on the virtual walls. "Lighthouse" allows roomba to clean room-to-room, spending as much as 25 minutes per room, before going onto the next room. One representative told me that this actually slows down Roomba's overall cleaning performance because without lighthouse Roomba considers whole house as one big room even though to you it appears to be working less efficiently by going over the same spots 2-3 times. Another representative told me that the lighthouse functionality is best for rooms that have a circular linear pattern. She said "if your home is set up in a circular linear pattern the 880 would work well. That means that each room follows into the next and has 2 doorways. If the entrance and the exit are the same door way the 870 would be better."

Difference between Roomba 880/870 and Roomba 780
880/870 has 5x more powerful suction than 780
880/870 has tangle-free Aeroforce Extractors
880/870 holds 60% more dirt in dust bin
880/870 has a single HEPA filter that needs to be changed every 3-4 months whereas 780 has two filters that need to be changed every 2-3 months (told over the phone)

More info discussed on product page and at this blog post: http://allhomerobotics.com/irobot...whats-new/

Why this is a good deal
  1. Likely, 10% coupon applying to 870 is unintentional (just launched today). New 800 series introduced in November 2013 with Roomba 880, and coupon still does not apply to 880. 880 Has been sold out until mid-February, going on eBay for $900+.
  2. Roomba 880 ~$733 after tax and not available anywhere for discount. Since 800-series robots are exclusive to iRobot store, one cannot purchase through third-party resellers like Bed Bath and Beyond, which is a popular place to buy Roomba since you can always find a 20% coupon that applies to your Roomba purchase.
  3. Roomba 870 is everything 880 has besides remote and RF functionality for over $100 cheaper with coupon. In my case 870 saved me $160 versus 880.
  4. If you do buy from iRobot.com, you have a 30-day return window from when the product is shipped, so you can continue to look for better deal. Though, to get free return shipping, you must have some sort of grievance for why you are returning (cannot just be that you changed your mind).

Yes, there are competitors like Neato. One can buy a vacuum at target for $30 or less. Please discuss merit of deal on this model, instead of flaming people interested in Roomba. Thankshug

Roombas are better at corners IMO

I don't know... my 5 series (4 generations old at this point) picks up a TON. It runs itself every day and it picks up so much I empty it probably 2-3 times a week. Every other week I run my full-size vacuum, and it it takes 4-6 runs (2-3 months) to fill the bin. Despite certainly being weak, in my experience they make up for it by running regularly. And it can clean under the couches, tables and beds easily. So they certainly have advantages, especially for those who can't bring themselves to vacuum a couple times every week.

I've been looking at getting one of the new Aeroforce models. Thanks for the deal, OP, even though for some reason you're getting crap for 10% off a brand new model that literally launched today.

looks like the referral coupon is not valid on 800 series robots

Confirmed, dead. Yet, I got SOOO much heat on this deal for how bad it was. Yeesh. Good luck, Rote on finding an alternate deal. These are exclusive to iRobot store. I noticed some cash back through certain sites. 3% through citi, I think I may have seen up to 5%.

Personally though, I would just pay full price because you may waste more time looking for deals that don't exist.

Did this deal work for anyone? I called iRobot to try and see if they would honor it and they told me if they can pull up an order where someone got the 10% then they would honor it. Does anyone have an order# with the 10% that they would be willing to share? I am trying to buy the Robot and then 10% off would really make it slightly more affordable.

all three times I tried over the phone they immediately shot me down on the referral code. seems it's their policy that coupons don't apply to current generation robots. the extra research time I spent after failed coupon attempts has cooled my interest since I've seen the suction power of the 800 series compared to that of a dust buster.
