Starting today, at Target (see flyer), the Kyocera Hydro Android 3G phone will be at $9.99 (Reg. 59.99). I know previous deals from Radioshack have hit the front page.

For more details, http://www.target.com/p/boost-kyo...A-14782670

Besides the phone, this can be used for other uses (see http://slickdeals.net/f/6559288-kyocera-hydro-prepaid-smart-phone-9-99-at-target-b-m-70-off)

Cheers!

I got one in december (Target would only let me buy one). It crashes every now and then. Battery time is not even a day and sometimes it doesn´t charge. I have to take out the battery a few times until it finally starts charging. But it´s acceptable as a spare phone if you´re not picky.
It has only 512MB RAM, so you need to remove unnecessary apps (after rooting it) and install only the apps you need. I use "All-in-One Toolbox" to kill processes (Quick Boost) and "Advanced Task Killer Free" to kill apps from time to time.

My phone has 33% free memory most of the time (maybe all the time), and I've never had a crash. My battery is at 73% after running for 23hr and 7min on battery (mostly idling)

Good luck with that. Many people saying PerkTV will run 24/7 on Android are lying to get referrals (at least on reddit). A lot of people can only have it run a couple hours before it crashes or stops playing videos. It certainly won't be running 24/7, especially on it's slow hardware. I've tried a SGS II and EVO 3D (both dual-core phones), neither could run it more than a couple hours without stopping; one on 4.4 and the other on 4.1.

But if you don't mind checking the phone every hour or 2 to keep it running, maybe it'll pay off quick. At that rate, ~$0.04-0.05/hour.. it's basically getting paid $0.10 to spend 15 seconds restarting the app, playing a video, etc. Not worth the time for most people.

Now from what I've seen, it's much more likely to run PerkTV 24/7 on an iDevice, without having to constantly restart the app or manually start a video.
PerkTV can run 24/7 on iPhone 5S/6?

I'm still debating whether I should get the next gen iPhone or go with top of the line specs S5.. maybe i6.

Don't name it Boost Kyocera Hydro. Call it Kyocera Hydro (or Sprint Smart Phone). Smilie Yes, there is risk involved.

.the Kyocera Hydro (C5170) is only made for boost mobile and "lets talk" [Kyocera_Hydro (C5170)]

.the Kyocera Hydro edge (C5215) is made for sprint and boost mobile.. [kyocera-wireless.com]

Besides the uses mentioned above, it can be used as a cheap clock radio. No hacking needed.

Man first thing that I thought of with that title was that this was a sale on a razor to shave with.

At the target I went to, they has a limit for 2 per person per day. There were probably three or four more left. So for a camera, MP3 player and a GPS and wifi tablet - all waterproof for $10 is a great deal. It also comes with a 2 GB micro SD card (not sure if that is the internal memory or in addition to).

If you get a crap android phone and it is your first one, I think it will ruin your first impression about android, and hate it from then on. My first android was dell streak 5 and I was so dissapointed at the OS but fine with the form factor. I almost gave up on android but Nexus S made me reconsider and now I'm a heavy android user. I had note1, htc one, note3.
Don't ruin your android experience by going super cheap. If you want super cheap get at least a Moto G, otherwise go for WindowsPhone nokia 520 or apple's iphone5/4s or something.

If its not too much about budget but more about user experience and form factor iphone 5s is very easy for everyone, even a grandma. Moto x is also a good choice.
OK, so that's one "no" on this phone. Thanks and repped

I use my droid which was formerly used on Verizon with Page Plus. They have monthly plans ranging for $12-$55. Customer service was pretty bad a couple of years ago but has gotten much better. This phone would be fine for calling, texting and limited internet use, not on page plus though.
this seems to be a "yes", but it can't be used with all companies, if I read it correctly. Thanks and repped

itll get you by as a full time phone. my mom uses one and she thinks its an awesome phone. i couldnt stand it myself, but i am a power user
Thanks and repped.

Please tell me why you couldn't stand it. What do you mean power user?

And since no one commented on the size, isn't the screen too small to do anything with? It seems far smaller than a Galaxy S4 and even much smaller than an iPhone--or did I misinterpret the size somehow? Someone else said it would serve as a tablet, so I'm confused since tablets are much larger than the largest phones

Please comment on the size. The dimensions were very small sounding. How does it compare to an iPhone or other typical smart phones in terms of size? The nearest Target is a bit of a ride for me, so I'd like to know in advance

How is the screen resolution? The specs sound very low: 720 x 480
I would mainly want a reliable phone than can handle (hopefully but not essential) Yahoo messenger, takes a half decent picture, has decent call quality, and decent battery life

The nearest Target is a bit of a ride for me, so I'd like to know in advance

Would you mind briefly commenting on each of these factors? I know I'm asking a lot, but if it helps, I do try to pay it forward.
