But I bet you've been enjoying a faster PC for those three years so it's not all bad! I really do need this because I too jumped on a 120gb long ago and that has been full for so long, it's time to upgrade at this price I think. Then we can look back in six months and kick ourselves for not waiting when it's even cheaper...Smilie

Repped and nice find!

So these are continuing to drop daily. Any guesses where it might stabilize for at least 30 days/LOL?

So the old question is this too thick for most small laptops? I left my protective surround cover off one and was able to make it fit.

Check eBay prices for your current SSD. I was able to sell my OCZ Vertex 2 and 3 120GB drives on eBay for more than it cost to buy my 840 EVO 250GB last Fall. I basically got a free SSD upgrade/update.

I've been following an "SSD Endurance" test which includes the 840 EVO and its TLC NAND. Latest report has all test drives still working properly at 600TB written.... waaayyyy more than promised from any maker's warranty.

The EVO is the only one with TLC NAND and was expected to be the 1st to fail. At 600TB, it is the one which is "breaking down the most" in that it has consumed about 1/3 of its overprovisioning. With 2/3 of overprovisioning still in reserve, test moderators believe even the EVO will surpass 1PB written.

Bottom Line... In spite of the fact that Samsung built this drive with "less expensive TLC NAND to meet a price point", it is unlikely a consumer user will ever wear out the memory on this drive.

FWIW...

Tax nearly kills it. $20.56 in Cook County, IL.

Totals $255.55. Still better than Amazon @ $279 or Newegg @ $265, though.

I had one of these in my cart last night, but hesitated. Glad I did. Thanks, OP!

Was looking at the seller ratings and rakuten is like 1 of 10. Not sure I have seen any worse. Buy.com is 1.17 out of 10 with almost 3000 reviews. I have this in my cart but damn. These seller ratings are hard to get past.

Am I missing something here or is this just a bad experience waiting to happen?

Actually turned a small profit on the whole thing, but I hear you. eBay fees were at about 11.5% at that point I wouldn't be surprised if they've gone up again. I miss the good old days! What was surprising was how much the used OCZ SSD's were selling for (about $90 each). That's why it worked out so nicely.

Still, it's a little funny. I have griped about eBay fees here and there to a person from the previous generation, and to them 11% is pretty conservative, since from their perspective they compare it to consignment shops and such which often take 50%, haha.

Oh wow, it appears they don't charge tax in TX for Rakuten. Welp I'm sold.
