Wish they were doing a similar deal on the thermostats.

10% off (coupon or military) makes it $180. Oooh, that's tempting especially since I set mine off a couple weeks ago while cooking (smoky oil!). Hmm, can't tell if you could get this in the store or not. Little pop-up doesn't say online only, but it references online item codes.

I'll probably wait for a generation update and try to find the 1st gen on sale. Like I did with my Nest thermostat. Wink

While I agree that this is a good deal, why would you want to pay 20x the price for this? I just don't get it.

there's some fancy things that it can do if you are a nest thermostat user....

I gotta say... I understand the benefits of a smart thermostat...

but a smart smoke detector? not like I will turn it on or off from my smartphone, nor does it need to "learn" my schedule for some reason (unless it knows when its steak night...)

100 bucks to get a heads up pre alarm? an email when my house is on fire? dont tell me... tell the fire department! and any unit will do that with a house alarm.

whatever floats your boat.

Again, another great idea, and decent product. But just like the whatsapp buy out, the price "high" (pawn intended) because they are riding the iphone/wireless/home automation wave. Drop it to $50~70 each, and you will see buyers.

One of the features my wife likes is that it will send you a text if it goes off. It also has other nice usability features plus a sleek form factor. We don't have one as I can't justify the price but I understand the appeal.

All smoke detectors will have false alarms. Paying more or less for a smoke detector won't change that. It's the nature of the sensor used. The point of the nest protect is that they have varying degrees of alarm, are easier to silence false alarms, offer away-from-home convenience & peace of mind via the nest app, and are aesthetically pleasing.

This is a good deal and I'd love to replace my smoke alarms with them (love my nest thermostat), but I have 8 hardwired detectors currently. There is no way I can convince my wife we need to spend $800 on smoke detectors!
